I like everything that is P. falciparum related, but I can't hide my love for var genes.

I've long argued that MDPI's commercial practices aren't all that different to the other big commercial publishers, but it's still funny to see Springer Nature "literally carbon copying MDPI titles – just pricing them lower to lure scientists in".
New from The Strain Team:
🎊 Springer Nature Discovers MDPI 🎊

Springer Nature has spawned a copycat journal series called "Discover" mimicking #MDPI journal titles and citation behaviours. We even made a browser game to prove it (see 🔗).

Gross! 😀 1/n

This collaboration with Gwladys Bertin (IRD Paris) was started 12 years ago, it's finally published!

We tracked P. falciparum in kids with severe malaria & found that new haplotypes emerge after treatment begins - missed at admission!

Detection of novel Plasmodium falciparum haplotypes under treatment pressure in paediatric severe malaria
Background. In Africa, the clearance time for Plasmodium falciparum severe malaria varies significantly, likely due to the complexity of P. falciparum infections and the sequestration phenomenon exhib...

Nature has built its business on unpaid reviewers and now writes an article about unpaid labor in academia… How ironic.

OK, here is my very first tweet (or whatever sound a butterfly makes?).

I'd like to publish a dataset of P.f. PacBio genomes. "Scientific Data" would be an appropriate Journal, but I'm trying to avoid Springer/Elsevier like the plague. Anybody knows a suitable nonprofit alternative Journal?
