I can’t stop thinking of all the things the Dems could have done besides cave. Imagine the gesture of solidarity if they had donated 100% of their salaries during shutdown to food pantries? Or set up their own: “Dinner from the Democrats!” I’m gonna pivot and channel my energy & rage into primaries.

Don’t forget, he also argued for the economic logic of dumping toxic waste in developing countries for a few reasons, including that the cost of health impairing pollution is less where people’s earning potential is lower. Afterwards, he said it was satire. Sure thing Larry. Read his memo here:

Civil society has to hold together and pull forward until the Democratic Party changes. It makes no sense to wait for the Democrats as a party. What makes sense is shifting the ground underneath them.
From street marches to court battles to the ballot box - we’ve challenged the power of this exceptionally unpopular president.

The lesson from each success we've had is that we need to ramp the political pressure up, always up, not back down, now more than ever.

Let’s put Berkeley on this list @mayoradenaishii.bsky.social. We can make our wonderful city safer, healthier, greener, a model for the region! Start w/ prioritizing people, bikes & public transit over cars- keep steady through backlash to get to the point when everyone wonders why it took so long!

Let’s all photocopy or take a photo of our ACA increases and mail/email them to our Congressmembers. Pls spread the word so we can flood their mailboxes. They get health insurance no matter what; we need to show them our reality. Many will now have extreme emergency only coverage. It’s a disgrace.
I've been reposting everyone replying to this post with their own ACA (and sometimes employer!) price hikes. Feel free to add yours. There is some comfort in knowing you aren't alone and knowing we'll all be voting on this issue in a year.

Chuck Schumer should be chucked out. #chuckchuck
My ACA current plan is going from $385/mo to $821/mo.

Can you imagine how different the country would feel about Dems right now if, instead of caving, they had all donated their salaries during the shutdown to food banks in their districts? They would have survived (they still have health coverage), people would have food & they would have been heroes.

🚨 We’re hearing that Senate Democrats are on the verge of caving to Trump in another “Schumer Surrender.”

That means your Democratic senators need to hear from you right now.

“He promised things that Europeans take for granted, but Americans are told are impossible.”

I increasingly think that the most powerful act we can take right now is to truly believe a better society is possible. Then fight for it but first we have to really internalize that better options exist.

My God. Jamaica. Gaza. Sudan. Here families separated & neighbors losing SNAP. This holiday season, let’s support community & compassion instead of consumerism. Let’s skip superfluous gift-giving & give to those in need. The best gift is a healthy, peaceful planet & that requires a lot more sharing
What we're witnessing with #Melissa is ultra rare in the history of known hurricanes in the Atlantic. This level of sustained intensity and feasting on every joule of ocean heat content without any real disruption is incredible.

Let’s all stop buying cheap disposable clothes, even if the price is tempting. It’s crap for the planet, the workers & for end of life management. Be honest: most of the time we have other options. Yes, durable clothes are more expensive, but last longer so we can buy less. Or buy better stuff used.
