So excited to read this new book by Judith Enck (of @beyondplastics.bsky.social.) But I already have a question: Judith, the problem with plastic are so voluminous - how did you fit them all into such an accessible easy-to-read light little book? @storyofstuff

Am listening to a zoom with @mariaressa.bsky.social who just said that as of March, 72% of the world is under authoritarian rule. I fully believe that resistance, democracy & victory are possible, but my friends, we have to be nonviolent, rigorously strategic, disciplined & inspired. It’s go time!

Today is Constitution Day. Helluva day to cancel Jimmy Kimmel for making jokes the president didn’t like.

In today’s episode of Better-Things-Are-Possible, check out France’s new high speed passenger trains. And one picture of how most U.S. commuters get to work for comparison. Don’t let anyone tell you that healthier, safer, accessible public transit transportation is not possible or is too expensive.

Don’t ever let anyone convince you that transitioning off fossil fuels means going back to Little House on the Prairie lifestyle. There are so many innovations, solutions, healthy ways to meet peoples’ needs. One small example: check out the world’s first solar train in Australia. lnkd.in/gtwaRqix

Sure! Yes I was so delighted when I learned what the openings are for. They are called fenestrations. The ones on top help the ones on bottom because they are all part of the same plant. They realize we are all better off when we are all better off.

My monstera has a beautiful new leaf. Leaves at the top develop openings to allow sunlight to pass through upper leaves to reach lower level leaves to get them what they need to thrive. This one came out during the debates on the budget bill which, it occurred to me, is the exact opposite approach.

Does MTG’s prohibition on releasing chemicals into the atmosphere which change the weather include products from international combustion engines and other greenhouse gases? She says she has been studying, which is hard to imagine, but maybe she’s on to something…

Thanks @schumer.senate.gov, when we’re kicked off Medicare, when friends & family are abducted by ICE, when extreme weather devastates our towns with no warning, it will be such a relief that you changed the name of the Bill that unleashed all this.

Call me naive, but I just don’t understand how anyone can vote for this and not feel absolute self-disgust. Why wouldn’t feeding hungry children be more attractive than inflating investment accounts that they will never live long enough to spend?

Democrats: where do you think the energy around Mamdani comes from, if not his ideas? I mean, sure he’s eloquent and more - but the most attractive thing about the guy is his vision for an equitable affordable city for all - & his willingness to fight for that. How about other Dems give that a try?

I don’t understand how anyone can know history and oppose reparations. It’s objectively true that white people had generation after generation to build wealth extracted from unpaid labor of enslaved Black people. It’s centuries too late to right this wrong, but for god’s sake, let’s do what we can.

I saw this van with an upholstery company logo on the side, and had a rush of feeling hopeful. I mean, if we even have the upholsterers fighting back, the resistance is growing! @justprotest.bsky.social #protest

Every day when I walk my dog, I pass this bus parked off a public (ie government funded) road, at a public park, next to public restrooms and a public water tap.
