I don’t even have to say anything now my mum sees me flinch, knows why, and apologises and lowers her screen brightness when asking for help.

I recently read Henry Gee’s Decline and Fall of the Human Empire which makes use of an ecology idea ”Extinction debt“ and am reading Kondrashov’s Crumbling Genome which is specific about genetic load under relaxation. Would love to read both sides of this, the review in full and the book(?)

#Migrainechat

sibling with a catastrophic spinal cord injury leading to incomplete quadriplegic pattern (has partial function alongside widespread paralysis, loss of sensation, etc) validates all my chronic pain and impairment the most.

They really “get” to better-and-worse-days disability

Alex next time review The Culting Of America by Daniella Mestyanek-Young. Specifically deals with Maga as a cult of personality.
Cults of personality grow because their leaders scoop up members of other groups, like the ones featured in Furious Minds. 🫡

2) The authors started with data in the UK Biobank. They looked for cases with MS, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and atopic dermatitis using their ICD-10 health records.

Next, they used the genetic data of these participants to screen for disease–causing mutations.

Also I wonder if anyone else who increases their salt intake has experienced haywire thyroid issues? I recently switched to non iodised salt bc of it. The swelling nodules (confirmed on ultrasoun) seem to have gone down. No idea why. And took years to emerge. Might be unrelated to salt.

Not as severe as you Tom but I try to ascend stairs at home to my detriment. I can but pay for it.
Now if I attempt them I remind myself to turn backward, sit on the step and pushing up with my arms and feet to sit on the next slowly, thereby get to the next floor.

I was asking something similar recently in another context. If ”normal” parent of a child w/ rare disease share the gene variant, otherwise extremely rare, that variant not considered causal in the child? bsky.app/profile/anna...
Milder traits in family members of someone with syndromic autism.

psychiatrists said to us “we can test your child’s genetics, but we test both parents and if discovered rare variants are shared by you the parents, they are not considered (pathological)”

That seemed strange to me.
