Discovery that doesn’t lead to action isn’t discovery. It’s kabuki with post-it notes.

The identity manuals and style guides of the late 20th century were a big influence on modern design systems.

NASA’s 1976 Graphics Standards Manual is a great exmple — covering everything from letterheads to spacecraft insignia.

Just for fun, we looked back to see what still holds up today…

Been really fun watching this come together over the past few months.
When we founded Measured, we threw together the minimum viable visual identity we needed. In mid-2024, we rebuilt it from the ground up to better reflect our expertise. Take a look, and get tips for your own brand revamp: measured.co/blog/new-vis...
Creating a new visual identity for Measured
When you work in UI and branding, your own shop window should reflect your expertise. Here’s how we upgraded our visual identity to show what we’re about.

I’ve worked in intranets, digital workplaces, and comms long enough to see the same cycles repeat, the same mistakes made, and the same bright ideas crash and burn.

So here are the hard truths. Are you ready? Let’s go. 🧵

This was a super fun visit My new favourite bit of swag is my @figma.com "Detach Instance" pin badge, narrowly beating out my @zeroheight.com Chippy socks from Converge. I am a total sucker for quality swag.
A welcome nudge from @figma.com to raise our swag game. (And thanks for hosting a great product culture event in London last week!)

Publishing an article about Tailwind after I insisted that we stick my email address at the bottom of every page was maybe not my best plan ever. Let's see what happens.
