I shared the data below because RFK Jr. thinks that NIH focuses too much on infectious disease and not enough on chronic disease. Depending on how you count, less than 10% of NIH's budget goes to infectious disease, while the lion's share goes toward chronic disease.
How much NIH funding goes toward infectious vs. chronic disease? If I assign NIAID's (Allergy and Infectious Disease) budget as infectious, even though allergies are chronic, then it's 9%. Other institutes are general or mainly chronic.
