Shreveport, Louisiana outlawed parking minimums this week. Meanwhile, Seattle and Washington state leaders fiddle around with ~just the right amount~ and pretend to be “climate leaders”. What are we even doing? We’re getting lapped by Shreveport!

The best rent stabilization is more housing.

What is even the purpose of SEPA if a 594-stall parking garage is able to receive a "determination of non-significance"

Photo from Seattle's ID, circa 1940's. Look how wide our sidewalks used to be. That same sidewalk is now about half the original width, plus it shares much of it's space with street trees. Ouch. But at least we 2 vehicle lanes running in either direction 🥴

The theatrics. I don't know that a 4 story building would add anything to a skyline?

If we build enough housing we don't need rent control. We don't get enough housing if we have rent control. We don't get to affordable housing with rent control, if we did SF and NYC would be the most affordable cities in America.

Despite the predictably bad headline, the comments on this post were actually a lot more pro bus lane than I was expecting! Advocacy works!

This was one of my favorite recent ones. There’s nothing historic about these “bungalows”! They’re just old homes at the end of their lives!

In a city of over 1m people, the existing rules produced less than 1k units. So embarrassing they would "reform" these rules to limit that amount.

No, this is a separate one. The article did have a note about the other project that bankrupted the city.

that might be true, but then you miss bangers like this

This is what happens when our cities don't build enough housing. 1400 homes get built in the far exurbs of our cities (in this case Cle Elum) on 800 acres of forest land. Deforestation alone doesn't account for the emissions from vehicles commuting in and out of these homes, either.

Anyone know the story being these tree planters on Nagle? They look very not-SDOT, but are bolted in place.
