It's no accident that the discussion of sexual violence focuses on these relatively rare cases. Railing against them isn't threatening to the patriarchal family, instead it justifies further clamping down on children's (and adult women's) autonomy and access to influences from outside the family.

i think it was a mistake to normalize an understanding of patriarchy as "a system where men oppress women." it would be more accurately to understand patriarchy as a system in which the reproductive capacity of young women is controlled

the fundamental mistake is that they're not actually anti-patriarchal bc it is perfectly possible to be outraged by the sexual abuse made possible by patriarchy and still uphold it. patriarchy is not an idea or ideology, it is a system of organization for labor & reproduction
I'd be really curious if someone better versed in feminist theory wrote about what's happening on the right. Because between Greene, Mace, and Bobert, we've got this bloc forming of women who seem tired of serving a patriarchy of sex criminals. And their rhetoric is starting to lean that direction.

i've kept a giant scorecard for kansas legislators' voting records on trans rights and i'm sure it comes as a shock to no one that despite kansas being the first to pass "the women's bill of rights", 9 out of 10 top pro-trans legislators are women vs 5 out of 10 anti-trans legislators
