The problem with the Pedestrian and Cycling strategies is that public works isn't required to abide by it, and has a litany of reasons why it simply wasn't possible to make the roadway usable by people outside of a car.

I'm surprised at how many Canadians support denying the charter rights of youth in Canada to vote. I thought progressives would be more supportive of ending the disenfranchisement of 1/4 of the population.

They should be worried. People who fall into the "We need Liberal seats to get Carny" might end up electing a CPC candidate instead. In Winnipeg Centre, some of the NDP votes going to Liberal won't change much, but it was already so close in Elmwood that a small shift to Liberal will flip it.

From my commute this week: A driver uses the calming circle as a slip lane onto the neighbourhood 30k greenway.

When drivers have been getting a subsidized oversized share of the transportation money in our cities for decades, moving towards more equitable transport makes you inherently anti-car. Recognizing that the danger you experience comes nearly entirely from drivers makes you anti-car.

At least the article includes a reality check from Durand-Wood. If Winnipeg had the same density today we did in 1970, we would likely still be in a positive net financial position & minimal infrastructure deficit.
Winnipeg chose Low Density & Taxes, and has unstable services & lots of debt.

As a Manitoban, I like to think of the center of Canada as being a bit East of Winnipeg, but if we're using geographic, it's really in Nunavut, and saying it's in Southern Manitoba is once again focusing on where the people are. (Within 100 miles of the US Border)

People are conditioned to think that driving in the winter is normal, and cycling or walking is extreme and dangerous. Winter driving is only possible because of a massive investment in snow clearing operations.
We deserve the same level of care for sidewalks and bike paths.

From Jan 11, 2023. This is a policy failure on the city's part. City council decided that this was acceptable.

What this chart isn't saying is that in 2014, Winnipeg had 82 days below -20, but in 2023, only 28, or a loss of 54 days.
While we didn't have much of a loss of below 0 days, there's been a massive warming.
(Note, 2014 was relatively cold, and 2023 a relatively warm year)

Wasn't this an education tax rebate change? It should be noted that while it will increase revenues, most Manitobans will end up paying around the same or less education tax. This is basically taking the very recent 50% tax cut the PC's made, and making it a progressive tax instead.

Spurred by discussions about how Winnipeg's snow clearing sucks, I present the following.
We have the lowest per capita operating budget of Canadian winter cities. (Montreal, Regina, Edmonton, Saskatoon)
Winnipeg spends only 63% of the average per capita operating budget of this group of cities.

It's good to remind the residents of Wellington Crescent that while they pay more / hectare than so many other affluent areas, they still pay less/ha than the "inner city" areas of Daniel Mc, and St. B.
