🎲✂️
Had 2 playtests for "Gold? Mine!!" this week, one in person and one on Screentop.
It *feels* like I'm in the design's contraction phase. Additions aren't improving it. A little scary to see it settle into a more final form and tradeoffs become more permanent. It's "fun", …but is it good enough?

You know, I would support a ban on text message fundraising that only targeted democrats. Leave me alone!

Have to plead ignorance: what is meaning behind
“🎲✂️” ? Die cut? Prototyping games? Game design?

There’s just so much shady shit in this story, but this really sticks out. Folks in NLRB’s IT unit were so freaked out by what they saw DOGE doing that they wanted to notify the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. Then this happened:

Didn’t see this coming. I think my brain is drawn to systems, but my designer brain is 2 for 2 aiming for simple & straight forward.

I got Vital Lacerda – The Euro Engineer in the "Which Board Game Designer Is Your Creative Soul Twin?" quiz from Boardssey.

Prediction: One bittersweet aspect about the tariffs is that U.S. players are going to spend *less money* on new games, and spend *more time* appreciating previously acquired games in their collection that would otherwise only get 1-2 cursory play throughs.
It always kills me when boardgame folks talk about "Replayability". Lets be honest here, how much of your boardgame collection have you played 10+ times?

I have about 35% of mine that have been played 10+ times but I play lighter games than most.

Should be in a bad mood given *waves hands at news*, but have you seen the weather? It's between 50 and 70 in Iowa today.

Just typing that ups the chance of a blizzard hitting next week though.

"USDA has often left its antitrust-like powers unused"

Given nearly a century of inaction, Erika Douglas argues for stripping away USDA's antitrust authority and returning it to DOJ/FTC. In fact, Congress almost did so in 1957 for this reason.

I couldn't agree more.
Antitrust Abandonment - Yale Journal on Regulation
This Article identifies the problem of “antitrust abandonment”: a pattern of long-term, unexplained disuse of antitrust-like enforcement powers held by industry regulators. Much of antitrust scholarsh...

I think some in the Senate have convinced themselves that the backlash to folding will be limited to “the left” and therefore ignorable.

Those people are deeply and profoundly misreading the moment and the stakes.

Virtually every swing district House Dem walked the plank to vote NO for a reason.

You can now read about projects that were interrupted when 18F was disbanded.

One of them was with the Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP), which ensures military service members and Americans overseas are able to vote, and that their votes are counted.

We’re receiving word that General Services Administration leadership are firing more people tonight. Our dedicated colleagues should be eating dinner with their families or putting their kids to bed, not having their lives upended. The public will suffer, too. We stand with all of you.
