John Cale has made a record with someone who wasn't even born when he made Songs For Drella, which for most artists would count as a late-career recording, but for him... long may he roll, is what I'm saying.

Sad to hear that Lindsey Vickers, director of the now rediscovered Brit horror classic The Appointment (1981), has gone at the age of 85.

✨🪞HAUNTED MIRRORS 🪞✨

A man acquires an antique mirror with a bloodthirsty ghoul trapped in the glass. This is the premise of From Beyond the Grave’s “The Gatecrasher” (1974), based on a short story by Ronald Chetwynd-Hayes.

Tonight's film is the obscure French horror The Demon is on the Island (1983) which has a fantastic sounding Garth Marenghi plot. Domestic appliances bought from the same shop turn murderous! First (and probably last) time watch.

Tonight's film is Blazing Magnum (1976) an Italian cop thriller starring Stuart Whitman (and his amazing eyebrows) as a Dirty Harry clone. Has an amazing extended car chase. The film is also known as the more poetic Strange Shadows in an Empty Room. First time watching.

Appearing just in time for Halloween is my new blog looking at the 1980s weekly magazine The Unexplained issue by issue.

Find out what links the magazine with the band The Smiths. What made the magazine playground contraband? Dare you listen to Breakthrough?

Damn Peter Watkins has gone. A pioneer of docudrama with Culloden and The War Game also the sublime Privilege, Punishment Park and biopic Edvard Munch. Vale!

Defending the WAC: ‘Bigger on the Inside’ Doctor Who Archives by Toby Hadoke
It’s always bloody Doctor Who isn’t it? The show about the police box that’s bigger on the inside than it is on the outside. There is so much in the rich history of BBC drama that requires scrutiny…
