Twitter for me was mainly about community issues in Soho. Slowly on the way out (of X and Soho) so moving into broader areas of interest here, I hope. Politics, community, books, Spurs, Christian faith ...
Good short thread on Trump, along with article in third post.
Another good thing to do would be to find reporters/outlets/mediums that are helpful at explaining *why* both of these things are happening — and aren’t surprising developments in the bigger picture of politics right now — rather than focus on the spectacle of each one.
In the span of 12 hours Trump called MTG a "traitor" and posted photos from his playdate with Zohran Mamdani. The only lesson I can take away is that anytime you find yourself trying to predict the future just stop

Leaving with character and reputation intact.
Poch and Ange gave us the highs. Daniel Levy has given us the lows. (Taking away the credit he should have from appointing them in the first place, and from the business achievements of the stadium, etc).

Good response to a poor word choice, rightly challenged. If only the world had more of this!
As I say on the pod, I regret using the word clown & have conveyed that to AP, with an apology. It wasn't intended to reflect my own feelings about him, rather the binary way he could be perceived by others in future, depending on tonight. I stand by that point but it wasn't the best choice of word.

Can hardly believe the shameful performance in the Oval Office. But many Americans will be finding it hard to be proud of their country today. Don't forget that.

A piece that is both life affirming and deeply challenging. No one should think that governing is easy, but how we need more politicians who understand and promote the values that @ianbirrell.bsky.social expresses so movingly.

There's a real problem with this. It's a 'success', a key part of growth for the powers that be, especially in bringing more tourists to London. But they don't just use the new Elizabeth line - they also add to existing overcrowding elsewhere, on public transport and on central London streets.
More than 500 million passenger journeys have been made on the Elizabeth line in its first two and a half years, making it the single busiest railway service in the UK, according to new Transport for London data released today

If there’s one thing, one bloody thing, that we have learned over the last century it’s that seizing territory by force or coercion is bad - not just on moral grounds but because it makes every border a temporary line of control awaiting an act of aggression. I despair, I really do.

An underappreciated aspect of the Nazi rise is how quickly German *society* fell into line. In early March 1933, a majority of German voters voted against the Nazis. By late spring, pretty much the whole country backed them. How did that happen? Here's a little thread. (1/6)

There's a sort of "immigration bad vs multiculturalism good" polarisation in the debate, but very little in the way of a nuanced middle ground that acknowledges both the benefits and costs and soberly tries to work through how you get the best of diversity whilst also mitigating downsides/risks.

This week I looked at one of the big data mysteries. Britain is 2/3 less violent than the 1990s; thefts were higher pre-lockdown

Why, then, doesn’t it feel like it?
