My colleagues, collaborators, and I are funded by #NIH to bring the most promising medicines to people with life-threatening illness

If you offer an across-the-board buyout to 2 million people, the best have outside options and will take it; the worst have none and will stay.

Either (1) Elon Musk is an idiot, and he doesn't understand adverse selection or worse yet (2) he isn't, he does, and he wants the best gone.

Elon’s extreme hatred of his former friend Sam Harris seems to have begun after Elon made a bet with Sam that Covid would never top 35,000 cases in the US, and was proven spectacularly wrong.

A lot of people seem to struggle with this but 50% is actually much better than 0%

Influenza vaccines for this year are about 50% effective against all severity of influenza in adults and slightly more effective in young children, about 62% against severe infections. This is a good level of protection and it matters. Get a flu shot🧪

Post election, I've been trying to report more on the decline of trust in institutions. Obviously the media's crisis is part of this. Last week, I came across a paper from @juliaangwin.com that looks at how creators build trust w/ their audiences & I called her up. Lots of good lessons here, imo

Vaccines are being attacked left and right BECAUSE they work so well that people have conveniently forgotten about polio and poxes.

Here is a contemporary example in oncology. Vaccines prevent cancer and reduce cancer deaths - do you know how hard THAT is??
