I said in my Forest match review that Ekitike has to start over Isak.

It would be brutal to sack Slot. He’s managing a group of grieving men. Any wonder they make mistakes? Getting rid of Arne would maybe bring the players down further too. There’s no magic wand for this.

But it’s also hard to know where Liverpool go from here. Loooong season ahead.

Up the Reds.

It had been a decent enough first 30 minutes... but when it goes wrong this season, it goes real wrong.

Thanks. Looks like it’ll be the description in this pic for pressure regains. When talking about Opta’s final third regains or high turnovers, it should be a ball recovery in the relevant part of the pitch - starting a new possession sequence in other words (I think).

The eye test says Liverpool's press isn't working, the data says it is... either way, it's helping their attack.

Only two of these players are in their 30s. Just one is 33.

Seven of the other nine are at least five years younger than Mohamed Salah. Life in the old dog yet.

Have all the best Scotland goals since Archie Gemmill happened tonight?

I went to a screening of a Manic Street Preachers documentary tonight. James Dean Bradfield (centre) did a Q&A afterwards.

The film is about the aftermath of the disappearance of Richey Edwards and the making of the subsequent album, Everything Must Go. It’s great.

Liverpool's defence has come under a lot of criticism this season, most of it fair.

Yet based on the corresponding fixtures the defence has been broadly the same, with the attack far more of an issue. We'd better have a look into that: www.andrewbeasleyfootball.com/p/its-the-at...

I’ll raise you this one - called Best of the Sixties despite containing several tracks from the Seventies. Anyway, it’s great.

Liverpool's title challenge has broken, shattered, collapsed.

Their season isn't over, though. Far from it. The next nine league matches offer reasons for optimism, and here's why: www.andrewbeasleyfootball.com/p/liverpools...

Liverpool limited Haaland to his joint-lowest non-penalty xG in the league at home, missed two big chances and suffered two subjective VAR overturns for (I think) the first time ever.

The Reds weren't great but their luck was worse. My review: www.andrewbeasleyfootball.com/p/the-match-...

Any @fieldmusicmusic.bsky.social gig is great but to see them celebrate the 20th anniversary of their debut by playing most of it (and other oldies) was special.

Liverpool completed over 100 passes fewer against Real Madrid than any other team this season, yet Ekitike received more than ever before.

Much of that was thanks to Wirtz. They have the makings of a fine partnership.

The state of play at the half way point of the Champions League league phase.

Seven teams (including Liverpool) have played at least three of their four games against Pots 1 and 2. Inter are possibly in a slightly false position.

Headed goals in 1-0 wins for Liverpool tend to be rather memorable.

Liverpool's joint-top passing combination against Real Madrid was from Wirtz to Ekitike: nine passes, with one chance created.

Very few teams muster 2.5 non-penalty xG and nine shots on target against Real Madrid.

Liverpool just did.

Mohamed Salah had missed 20 of his last 22 big chances before the Villa match. But how much was his finishing and how much was the quality of the chances?

Let's review some data and clips together, friends: www.andrewbeasleyfootball.com/p/mohamed-sa...
