An interesting discovery this morning (when I was looking for something else).

I knew my Gran worked for the Glasgow department stores Frasers and Gordon Brothers but I didn't realise she was interviewed for a job at Wylie & Lochhead as well.

What do you call a trio of Glasgow department stores?

I guess all new features on #Genealogy websites and programmes have to start somewhere but this is all I'm getting on Ancestry's new DNA clustering feature lol (My Dad's known 1st cousins).

In my beloved Dunfermline Carnegie library today and the community gallery is currently featuring the work of the HNC Photography course at the local college. This by Olena Cheban was my favourite. #Dunfermline

Had a wonderful night tonight at Capercaillie's 40th anniversary concert. I love modern folk music. Karen Mathieson has some voice. #Scotland

How nice to see a mention in @wdytyamagazine.bsky.social of my latest, most favourite #LocalHistory exhibition. The mainly photographic coal exhibition at Kirkcaldy gallery was truly fascinating.

Has taken some time to get easy access in the UK to the latest edition of the best guide on citations but so pleased it's here now. #Genealogy #FamilyHistory

Stagecoach have decided to cooperate with my aim of the Scotland's People centre in Glasgow today. It was a month ago I had a 40 minute wait for any bus to turn up then the registrar was aggressive towards me. #Genealogy #Glasgow

Every 1st of the month I change my personal Facebook profile photo. This is my Mum in 1947. Mum & I spent hours puzzling over whose home this was. Not Mum's street of birth in Kelvinbridge, not her great grandmother's in Maryhill. Maybe forever a mystery #FamilyHistory #Glasgow

Like my great grandmother I'm an avid collector of postcards. I have 4 boxes of them, but this is the special container. These are all postcards received and sent by my family, my grandparents' generation downwards. So very precious. #FamilyHistory #LocalHistory

Gosh I'm looking forward to Expo Hall at #RootsTech2024 . When I explored it for the first time last year I was amazed that the big American #Genealogy brands would answer my questions from Scotland personally and were so friendly.

Goodness, #RootsTech 2024 starts in just 2 hours. I'm loving how I can organise my play lists this year. #Genealogy #FamilyHistory

Hah! I have achieved this evening a 5 year aim. I've read all 486 pages (excluding sources etc) of T C Smout: A History of the Scottish People 1560-1830. I've learnt more about Scottish history through this book than from all my 50 years of life in Scotland. #LocalHistory #Scotland

Well I've finished this amazing huge book on 17th century Dunfermline. It should be on every Dunfermline bookshelf, I'm buying myself a copy as soon as I hand it back to the library. I'm excited about the prospect of borrowing up to 15 more books on Saturday! #LocalHistory

This week's postcard, posted Johnstone July 1915:

Dear Willie it is alright as Mary will be flitting on Wednesday. We are all very proud of wee Willie's picture and glad to see he is all well. I hope you's will get next week. From Grana.

Very strange, a Scottish domestic message & an exotic view.

2 delightful new #LocalHistory booklets picked up from Glasgow City Archives today. My Govan-born Dad read through the Govan leaflet the minute I gave it to him ❤️.

This year I'm changing my Facebook profile photo to a different favourite photo every month. This month's late 1970s choice (me and my Gran) definitely needs some work on the colour. Will add that to my to-do list. #FamilyHistory

I'm sorry My Heritage this really is still a rubbish ethnicity result. #Genealogy

It was unusual for the Fife bus to come into Glasgow this evening via Strathclyde Uni. Instantly I think of my great grandmother (attached) dying at Rottenrow Maternity Hospital. I must write down the family story of her death, I'm considering trying Storied. #FamilyHistory

I read the technical chapters of Evidence Explained last year but I've just spent 2 evenings examining the citation examples and, my goodness, what inspiration. My brain is buzzing! #Genealogy

The article is in the next journal of the Scottish Local History Forum. I don't think the journal has actually arrived yet but you should be able to buy a copy from the SLHF when it's published. Also what a wonderful topic for a dissertation.
