Chicagoan Urbanist trying to improve the Salt Lake suburbs one bike lane or bus route at the time. Village of Addison and the CTA Purple Line's biggest critic.
For those wondering even further, I also have the Green Line also extending up Redwood Road to Woods Cross, the Yellow Line a line connection 700 S with the 400 W section of Tech Link, and the Blue Line extending to Lehi without Point of the Mountain.

For those wondering, I have the Purple Line as the 5600W BRT converted into TRAX Line and the Green Line extending down 5600W to terminate near the UFCU (formerly Usana) Amphitheatre.

Good to see at least one city named Addison can overcome dumb transportation choices.

I'm actually a proponent for electrifying only when you can't feasibly replace anymore car trips. A diesel bus replacing 10-30 car trips reduces your carbon footprint much more than replacing a diesel with an electric. Diesel buses are also cheaper to procure and thus expand service.

The meeting moves to closed session regarding collective bargaining agreements. The meeting is pretty much adjourned to the public.

Christensen makes a note of the poor quality of air coming out of older diesel buses and that new diesels are much cleaner and you still get the emission reductions from traveler consolidation. Says that they are more worthwhile than Hybrids, which I agree with, but still stand against CNG.

Lastly is the Zero Emission Bus Transition Update. Federal Grants have moved from Zero Emission to Low Emission Buses, specifically CNG (I'd personally rather prefer hybrids than increase GHG's from methane leaks). Goal is still 50% non-diesel fuel consumption which is well ahead of schedule.

An update from the Community Advisory Council detailing continued expansion with a monthly newsletter and connecting with past council members and those in their communities.

Moving onto the Fy2026 Budget, there was a $1 Million increase in what was proposed. Operations is $488 Million and debt is $196 Million which balances out to $685 Million total. Christensen points out the UVX debt is a commitment to the service there.

Next is a change order to Meadowbrook bus chargers for the MVX that passes unanimously.
December 3, 2025 at 4:44 PM
We move onto the 5-Year Capital Plan which includes the $760k earmarked to Salt Lake Central. Christensen reminds that Tech Link is being funded more by UDOT than UTA, which is a counter to my public comment. Plan passes unanimously.

Grants have been accepted for bus acquisition which Dir. Holbrook notes how helpful this is with the current deluge in American bus manufacturers. Chair Christensen says all the grants are exciting.

Applications are also in for Connector "BRT" routes and the removal of the ADA ramps at TRAX stations that will no longer be needed following the Blue Line vehicle replacement.
December 3, 2025 at 4:39 PM
Now for the aforementioned Grant Reports. There are three grants being applied for Salt Lake Central Improvements hoping for $5 million from either CMAQ, CRP, and NTSB. These grants are for emissions reductions and small businesses which the proposed improvements does little for IMHO.

The Executive Directors have also awarded the Planned Service Disruption Team internally for their communications regarding the State of Good Repair projects this year.

Christensen makes another comment about Acerson being stuck in traffic. I bet he has been passed by two FrontRunner trains at this point.
December 3, 2025 at 4:20 PM
Moving onto reports, the UTA has received Golden Spike Awards for both experience and social media. I hope the social media team continues succeed and possibly have a presence here on BlueSky.
December 3, 2025 at 4:19 PM
Last is Fredrick Jenny who points out the total amount of money going towards Salt Lake Central and that the grants have little to do with the emissions reductions and small business grants applied for. He asks why the Rio Grande Plan is not get any recognition from the UTA.
December 3, 2025 at 4:15 PM
Next comment is David Wendt who came up here from South Jordan and FrontRunner and was stopped by a UP train at the crossing. Says that current plans are "bandages on a bullet wound."

First public comment is mine which is hitting hard against the items on the agenda. I have posted my full comment below.

Dir. Acerson is currently late to meeting driving from Tooele and stuck in traffic. Chair Christensen makes a remark about the need for rail service there. I will note It is still possible for Acerson to make use of the numerous Park-n-Rides along the FrontRunner.
