Chicagoan Urbanist trying to improve the Salt Lake suburbs one bike lane or bus route at the time. Village of Addison and the CTA Purple Line's biggest critic.
At the UTA board meeting I gave comment regarding the grants applied for and capital spending that is currently going to the SLCentral Station Improvements. It is a disservice to proceed with this plan ahead of the WEConnect Study, especially with other options, like @riograndeplan.bsky.social.

For those wondering even further, I also have the Green Line also extending up Redwood Road to Woods Cross, the Yellow Line a line connection 700 S with the 400 W section of Tech Link, and the Blue Line extending to Lehi without Point of the Mountain.

For those wondering, I have the Purple Line as the 5600W BRT converted into TRAX Line and the Green Line extending down 5600W to terminate near the UFCU (formerly Usana) Amphitheatre.

I am realizing that Tooele is not as far south as I originally thought (still new here) and that there aren't many Park-N-Ride to make use of. This is more reason to extend the Green Line to 5600 W to at least make the Park-N-Ride there more useful after the fall of the 3500 MAX.

Lastly is the Zero Emission Bus Transition Update. Federal Grants have moved from Zero Emission to Low Emission Buses, specifically CNG (I'd personally rather prefer hybrids than increase GHG's from methane leaks). Goal is still 50% non-diesel fuel consumption which is well ahead of schedule.

Moving onto the Fy2026 Budget, there was a $1 Million increase in what was proposed. Operations is $488 Million and debt is $196 Million which balances out to $685 Million total. Christensen points out the UVX debt is a commitment to the service there.

Next is a change order to Meadowbrook bus chargers for the MVX that passes unanimously.
December 3, 2025 at 4:44 PM
We move onto the 5-Year Capital Plan which includes the $760k earmarked to Salt Lake Central. Christensen reminds that Tech Link is being funded more by UDOT than UTA, which is a counter to my public comment. Plan passes unanimously.

Grants have been accepted for bus acquisition which Dir. Holbrook notes how helpful this is with the current deluge in American bus manufacturers. Chair Christensen says all the grants are exciting.
December 3, 2025 at 4:39 PM
Applications are also in for Connector "BRT" routes and the removal of the ADA ramps at TRAX stations that will no longer be needed following the Blue Line vehicle replacement.
December 3, 2025 at 4:39 PM
Now for the aforementioned Grant Reports. There are three grants being applied for Salt Lake Central Improvements hoping for $5 million from either CMAQ, CRP, and NTSB. These grants are for emissions reductions and small businesses which the proposed improvements does little for IMHO.

The Executive Directors have also awarded the Planned Service Disruption Team internally for their communications regarding the State of Good Repair projects this year.

Moving onto reports, the UTA has received Golden Spike Awards for both experience and social media. I hope the social media team continues succeed and possibly have a presence here on BlueSky.

First public comment is mine which is hitting hard against the items on the agenda. I have posted my full comment below.

I am here at the December UTA Board Meeting and will be giving live updates. Notable items on the agenda are advancements towards Salt Lake Central with $5 million in additional grant applications and $760k earmarked next year in the 5 Year Capital Plan.
December 3, 2025 at 4:01 PM
The UTA's 5-Year Capital Plan has $760k earmarked next year for the Salt Lake Central Redevelopment. This is more than they have going towards the New Orange Line and Rerouted Red Line at only $500k over the entire 5 years. This is on top of the $3 million already put into Salt Lake Central in 2024.

This year Metra did not inform riders about service and fare changes for the Thanksgiving Holiday. Up until today, it was impossible to know that they were only going to charge weekend fares today despite providing full weekday service.

As someone who grew up in Addison, the Addison Walmart "bus hub" is a lost cause. I would rather the 711 get extended to Wood Dale with a new hub at Addison Rd and the 715 extended to Hamilton Lake via Itasca.

I agree. My comment in the first survey explicitly talked about the I-88 corridor being more useful for getting between Lisle, Oakbrook as no one seat ride exists. The shortened route is very redundant to the planned Pulse Cermak Line, even running alongside along IL-23 for the "non-expressway" part
November 26, 2025 at 8:45 PM
Pace's proposed routes for I-290 and I-88 Express Buses. The Lisle section of the I-88 route has been dropped with service now only planned to Yorktown in Lombard. Starting sections of both routes appear to not use the express way. Possible connections with Metra at Itasca and Berkley.
November 26, 2025 at 6:04 PM
I see you're banking on Metra not offering a weekend fare on Black Friday, which wouldn't be surprising after they charged full fare on both Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve while also cutting service. I'd like to add more people get Black Friday off than Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve combined.

This is why we NITA integrated fares.

As a former westside Evanston resident, stops at Dodge and Crawford on the Yellow Line to make it more usable for those that live around it. They would synergize well with the expanded service on the 93 and compliment the 98% ridership return on the 215.

This is yet another example of how remote the Schaumburg MD-W station is, being closer to downtown Roselle than the one of its own namesake nor having a proper connection as no buses go south from the NWTC outside of select weekday deviations on the Pace 606.
