Well well well, who would've thought one day I would end up using Julia to fit a glmm? Also, yes, it is significantly faster than R, specially when you are working with millions of observations.

Really enjoyed this piece. I find interesting that R's particularities have never bothered me, I've always found them kinda logical... Seems is also weird when you've mostly spoken Finnish and you try to learn some Romance language!
Really insightful post from Julie Tibshirani (spotted in LinkedIn, can't find on Bsky) reflecting on #rstats 's unique governance structure and what can be learned for other languages

I'm trying to migrate from RStudio to Positron. So far so good, but does anyone know if one can visualize memory usage in Positron? That is a handy RStudio feature.

@degruyterbrill.bsky.social It seems the CCLM website is down, as well as the 'journals' link on De Gruyter's main website. This is the 2nd or 3rd time I have seen this issue within the last month or so...

I have to say, even though it was a very long drive to get there, the Bruce Peninsula Park is totally worth it.

Well, I have reached the point where debugging code in R requires the use of 'print' in multiple locations.

One of the best things about Posting is you never know what obscure preoccupations your followers have. There will be a guy who has followed you for years and never said anything but then one day you disparage applesauce and he activates like a sleeper agent and dedicates his life to destroying you

If I could sum up this week in one song, I would choose this rendition of Tico Tico by Paco de Lucia:

To be honest, I haven't been able to have the mental energy to sit and watch much TV in a long time. But man, Andor really wants you to stay glued to your seat.

Ha, pretty proud that my kids (both under 10 yo) got most of the musical and cultural references in 'Ready player one'!

As a former recipient of the Fulbright scholarship, this hits hard. And it is a sobering reminder that checks and balances are way more fragile than we have been willing to admit.
The Fulbright Foreign Student Program invites graduate students from abroad to come study in the US and guarantees funding for them to do so paid in a monthly stipend. Yesterday, some FFSP scholars received notification that they're only getting a week of their stipend.

{tinyplot} 0.3.0 is out! 🚨

It's a lightweight #Rstats 📦 to draw beautiful and complex plots, using an ultra-simple and concise syntax.

This is a massive release! @gmcd.bsky.social @zeileis.org and I worked hard to add tons of new themes and plot types.

Check it out!

A reminder that {modelsummary}, {tinytable}, and {marginaleffects} are Canadian so if you're an American researcher, you'll have to increase your citations of those #rstats packages by 25%, err, next month.

Silver lining of the day: being able to write and execute about 100 lines of code without looking into stackoverflow R,help, or Google for anything about ggplot2 and dplyr.
