A student handed me a graduation announcement and thanked me for being part of their “redemption arc”. A much needed reminder that teaching does matter, (some) students do care & that the future *might* be ok. #endofsemester

A very unpopular take, but I LOVE standard time!!! While I am grateful for long summer evenings, I’m at my happiest during the long winter twilight. ❤️❤️❄️❄️

To all the parents whose children “helped themselves” to handfuls of candy while I was holding the bucket - do better.

Explore this gift article from The New York Times. www.nytimes.com/2025/09/14/m.... “We could lose a generation of researchers….” I teach that generation of students. What is happening at NIH is inexcusable. They don’t like to learn, but they hate what they don’t understand.

I’m a professor that often feels powerless to make a dent in the horribleness surrounding us. And yet, if just 1 or 2 students learn about mRNA and leave my class knowing it’s not that scary, maybe what I do will make a tiny, tiny dent. 🤞🤞
Tyrants view educated citizens as their greatest enemy.

Slaveholders stopped the enslaved from learning to read. Nazis burned books. Dictators censor media.

That’s why Trump is attacking education, science, museums, and the arts – to prevent us from learning.

It's Fascism 101.

Most of my students are 1st gen and rural, therefore “DEI”…I’ve seen first hand many times how scientific research opportunities (funded via NIH) have changed my students lives in a myriad of ways. Scientific advancements (should) benefit everyone therefore science should include everyone.
The NIH has terminated hundreds of diversity grants awarded to young researchers, many of whom come from the very places that supported Trump. “People on the right, they don’t realize they’re limiting the opportunity of their own kids by supporting this.” nyti.ms/4lMDXtN

Listening to my 18yo discuss the cons of the OBBB w her BF (who is pro BBB) is simultaneously making my brain hurt and giving me hope. Hope for the future, not necessarily their relationship 😜

Never take competence and professionalism for granted. Thank people who display this qualities. It makes you feel better when you yell at the people who sorely lack both😜

They’re loud af & the neighbours are probably annoyed, but the sound of 4 teenagers horsing around in the backyard, laughing, is the moment of joy I needed today. #freerangekids

Maple trees will henceforth be a symbol of the resistance🤣. ❤️🍁
"How are trees DEI, exactly? Well, for starters, there are over 73,000 tree species on Earth, which is, frankly, way too much diversity. And tree planting initiatives are a ploy for globalists to infiltrate our country with the least desirable of those species."
We’re Eliminating All Urban Tree Plantings Because Trees Are DEI
This year, as cities around the world commemorate Earth Day, we, the Trump administration, will instead be celebrating America—the only part of the...

I didn’t get a pic, but I did see a lone woman holding a sign “Trump made me a democrat”. Corner of Capitol and Front, downtown Boise. Small signs of resistance in unexpected places = hope. Thank you to whomever you are

After sitting through a town hall with my state legislators this morning, it occurs to me that many of today’s problems could be solved if hubris was explosive.

Just when you’ve decided it’s easier to let the cynicism win, a former student e-mails to say they’ve been accepted to med school and to thank you for the support. Never underestimate the power of a sincere expression of appreciation.
