Amnesty EU
@amnestyeu.bsky.social
We are @amnesty.org European Institutions Office! We advocate towards the EU & Council of Europe for human rights for all.
The EU must:
👉Demand RSF to end attacks on civilians
👉Demand UAE to disengage from supporting RSF
👉Fully resource the UN Human Rights Council Fact-Finding Mission on Sudan
👉Extend ICC referral & UNSC arms embargo to all Sudan
👉End sale/supply of arms to conflict parties
November 25, 2025 at 4:37 PM
👉Uphold the rights of refugees & migrants
👉Champion justice for rights violations, supporting the work of the ICC & regional courts
👉Defend the international human rights system with its crucial norms & safeguards that protect people on both continents

@amnesty.org documented gang rapes, summary executions, torture & attacks on health facilities by #M23, Wazalendo & the Congolese army.

100,000s of lives are at stake.

The EU must demand accountability for abuses & ensure all armed groups prioritize protection of civilians.

EU inaction in DRC kills!

Today activists from LUCHA RDC & @amnesty.org
gathered outside the European Council to demand EU act to end horrific abuses in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.

A huge blow for people & the planet.

Today, @europarl.europa.eu voted in favour of deregulating corporations.

This backsliding will have devastating consequences for workers & the climate.

With so much at stake, human rights must be at the very heart of the EU-CELAC partnership.

Both regions must affirm the important role of rights defenders and civil society, ensuring their views are taken into account in policy & practice - at this summit and beyond.

Prohibition of torture

In 2008, the court reaffirmed that the prohibition of torture of other inhuman or degrading treatment is absolute. No state can commit torture & no state can send someone to countries where they would be at risk of torture.

🚨The Latvian parliament will vote today on a proposal to leave the Istanbul Convention, a landmark treaty protecting women & girls from violence. Such a move would put safety & lives risk.
@amnesty.org calls on Latvia to uphold the convention & work towards its full implementation.

The people of El Fasher have endured the RSF’s brutal 18-month long siege of the city.

@amnesty.org calls on the RSF to:
👉End attacks on civilians & civilian infrastructure
👉Allow humanitarian aid into the city
👉Guarantee safe passage for civilians fleeing violence

‼️It has been 10 years since Gui Minhai disappeared from Thailand.

EU leaders must use all tools at their disposal to press the Chinese authorities to release him immediately and unconditionally, and allow him to travel home.

EU spox @chiefspokesperson.ec.europa.eu has said the proposal to suspend the 🇪🇺-🇮🇱 agreement was made in a ‘given context’ & if this changes so too could the proposals.

@ec.europa.eu, the 'context' is ongoing apartheid, unlawful occupation and genocide against Palestinians in Gaza with impunity.
October 17, 2025 at 11:17 AM
On 20 October, EU foreign ministers were due to vote on whether to suspend the trade benefits afforded to Israel under the EU-Israel Association Agreement.

But since the ceasefire this point was dropped from the agenda.
October 17, 2025 at 11:17 AM
A ceasefire doesn’t mean the end of genocide, unlawful occupation or apartheid.

The EU must not backtrack on suspending the 🇪🇺🇮🇱 agreement.

Diplomatic & economic pressure on Israel is needed as much as ever.

Now is not the time to let up 🧵

“There is no worst-case scenario left to imagine, [...] an increasing number of UN experts and Afghan women describe what they are enduring today as gender apartheid.”

Yesterday @amnestysasia.bsky.social's Regional Director Smriti Singh spoke at the DROI Committee and FEMM Committee hearing.

Last Friday, activists from MANTHOC Perú with support of

EU proposals are a start. But Palestinians need so much more:

👉Immediate arms embargo
👉Unhindered humanitarian access & end the blockade
👉Ban trade with illegal Israeli settlements
👉End Israel’s genocide, apartheid and illegal occupation
September 10, 2025 at 12:59 PM
Pressure works!

The EU can no longer ignore the clear demand of millions to end Israel’s genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.

Shamefully late, @vonderleyen.ec.europa.eu proposes EU action on Gaza after nearly 2 years of Israel’s relentless bombardment & starvation.

But what's next? 🧵
September 10, 2025 at 12:59 PM
No more excuses. No more delays.

Every EU failure to act is a greenlight for Israel to continue its genocide in Gaza.

As EU ministers meet today in Denmark, @amnestydk.bsky.social sent them a message they can't ignore:

👉Suspend the EU–Israel Agreement NOW.

Slovenia: Facilitating the transfer of arms to Israel ‘alarming’ & violates intl' law

According to reports, A-E Electronics, a subsidiary of Elbit Systems, used a Slovenian port to transport military cargo to Israel despite Slovenia’s ban. Read our press release: www.amnesty.org/en/latest/pr...

Greece: Disturbing statements from migration minister
Thanos Plevris indicating that NGOs challenging govt migration policy before courts will be subject to audit.

The seemingly punitive measures would amount to an assault on freedom of association & have a chilling effect on civil society 🧵

@amnestynorge.bsky.social welcomes Government Pension Fund divestment from some companies based in Israel, but move falls short of addressing a systemic failure of its current ethical safeguards 🧵

Amnesty International welcomes the @echr.coe.int order to temporarily suspend the deportation of a Syrian man from Austria to Syria.

Austria must uphold its human rights obligations & scrap deportations to Syria entirely 🧵

This is a critical moment.

Spread the word and help us stop the abuse of AI by police and migration authorities.
