This was a frustrating read. I feel for these athletes and their parents. It also, unfortunately, fits very well into the dichotomies we’re seeing in other areas of our society.

I highly recommend his essay collections on audio, as he reads them himself. They are by turns laugh out loud funny and deeply moving.

There are, to my knowledge, only two significant individuals or institutions who break this rule, and use metals on metals. They signify by doing so that the normal rules don't apply to them - they claim a higher authority.
