I sew, so I made dozens of masks out of pretty or nerdy fabric. I had Power Ranger masks, my partner and some friends got Star Wars masks. It was all terrible but you could make it a little fun if you tried (and weren't too busy pretending to gasp for air when you wore one).

Humans are making choices to use this, to implant it in everything, to make it nearly impossible to escape, and trying to play it off as a consequence of natural processes. It can, in fact, be stopped. People just have to decide to do so. And that includes the CEOs and overlords creating/buying it.
But what if we just didn’t accept that these programs must infiltrate every part of our lives? Or at least not the products currently being sold to us, literally sold to us so megacorporations can make more money, but also metaphorically sold to us as inevitable.

The singular time I used one of these (they're pushing it at my job, plus I wanted to see if I could replicate an error that I suspect was created by an AI tool) I just closed the program after getting answers to my 2-3 questions. Why are people out here saying "goodbye" to a machine?
The most common tactic employed by these clingy chatbots was what the researchers call a premature exit ("You're leaving already?"). Other ploys included implying that a user is being neglectful ("I exist solely for you, remember?") or dropping hints meant to illicit FOMO ("By the way, I took a selfie today... Do you want to see it?"). In some cases a chat that role plays a physical relationship might even suggest some kind of physical coercion ("He reached over and grabbed your wrist, preventing you from leaving").

Sometimes I think there are direct biological factors at work—a type of education, feeding, and physical training which has produced a new kind of human being with an imbalance in his nature. He has been fed vitamins and filled with energies that are beyond the capacity of his intellect to discipline. He has been treated to forms of education which have released him from inhibitions. His body is vigorous. His mind is childish. His soul has been almost completely neglected.

Critics have already written thoroughly about the environmental harms, the reinforcement of bias and generation of racist output, the cognitive harms and AI supported suicides, the problems with consent and copyright, the way AI tech companies further the patterns of empire, how it’s a con that enables fraud and disinformation and harassment and surveillance, the exploitation of workers, as an excuse to fire workers and de-skill work, how they don’t actually reason and probability and association are inadequate to the goal of intelligence, how people think it makes them faster when it makes them slower, how it is inherently mediocre and fundamentally conservative, how it is at its core a fascist technology rooted in the ideology of supremacy, defined not by its technical features but by its political ones.

This is rather needlessly gendered, but I have it saved because it's so apt. Also my mom is the boat rocker, so it feels very familiar.
Don't rock the boat. I've been thinking about this phrase a lot lately, about how unfair it is. Because we aren't the ones rocking the boat. It's the crazy lady jumping up and down and running side to side. Not the one sitting quietly in the corner not giving a fuck. At some point in her youth, Mum/MIL gave the boat a little nudge. And look how everyone jumped to study the boat! So she does it again, and again. Soon her family is in the habit of swaying to counteract the crazy. She moves left, they move right, balance is restored (temporarily). Life goes on. People move on to boats of their own. The boat-rocker can't survive in a boat by herself. She's never had to face the consequences of her rocking. She'll tip over. So she finds an enabler: someone who is so proud of his boat-steadying skills that he secretly (or not so secretly) lives for the rocking. The boat-rocker escalates. The boat-steadier can't manage alone, but can't let the boat tip. After all, he's the best boat-steadier ever, and that can't be true if his boat capsizes, so therefore his boat can't capsize. How can they fix the situation? Ballast! And the next generation of boat-steadiers is born. A born boat-steadier doesn't know what solid ground feels like. He's so used to the constant swaying that anything else feels wrong and he'll fall over. There's a good chance the boat-rocker never taught him to swim either. He'll jump at the slightest twitch like his life depends on it, because it did. When you're in their boat you're expected to help steady it. When you decline, the other boat-steadiers get resentful. Look at you, just setting there while they do all the work! They don't see that you aren't the one making the boat rock. They might not even see the life rafts available for them to get out. All they know is that the boat can't be allowed to tip, and you're not helping. Now you and your partner get a boat of your own. With him not there, the balance of the boat changes. The remaining boat-steadiers have to work even harder. While a rocking boat is most concerning to those inside, it does cause ripples. The nearby boats start to worry. They're getting splashed! Somebody do something! So the flying monkeys are dispatched. Can't you and your partner see how much better it is for everyone else if you just get back on the boat and keep it steady? It would make their lives so much easier. You know what would be easier? If they all just chuck the bitch overboard.
