Twisting the old self into poetry / Cheerful Oblivion
“Letters to a Young Poet” by Rainer Maria Rilke. Really lovely sentiments written to Franz Kappus; I wish there were more. Rilke’s work has been especially resonant with me recently, and I’m happy to have a pocket-sized text of his as part of my collection.

Wooooof. Wow. “Codependent No More” by Melody Beattie is a must-read. Clearly popular for good reason- Beattie pulls no punches and tells you to straighten up. This stuff is difficult to sit with, but it’s so necessary to face ourselves honestly so we can show up better for loved ones and ourselves.

“Hope for the Flowers” by Trina Paulus, a sweet little hippie allegory about looking past the ‘rat race’ and finding joy in our own evolution, singing our own song, listening to the voice deep inside us all beckoning for self-actualization, and sharing our joy and freedom with those around us.

“Body Language”, compiled and edited by @catapultbooks.bsky.social . I found this collection of essays challenging, but crucial to digest- a wide array of lived experiences expressed in heartwrenching detail, transcending any divide to expose raw human truths.

Finally finished #allaboutlove by #bellhooks 💕 Such a tender and insightful perspective. Love as the action, as the choice, not as the fluttery feeling.

Just finished Polysecure by Jessica Fern! An attachment theory-heavy dive into relating to others (and to ourselves) in a more conscientious way, regardless of monogamous or #nonmonog / #polyam leanings. Chapter 9 alone was worth the read, but this is an all-around excellent text.

Nearly 1,000 people marched in the snow from the State House in Boston to City Hall, chanting “Elon Musk has got to go” and “No kings on Presidents Day!” The temperature was below freezing with wind chills in the teens.

“The Other Significant Others” by Rhaina Cohen sheds light on the many kinds of relationships people can have with each other outside of a romantic context. The people highlighted in this book are very much dedicated to one another nonetheless. Very inspiring and comforting.

Here is a photo of a trans non-binary biologist (me) holding a bird (Eastern Towhee) that is likely a bilateral gynandromorph-- a fusion of cells with female-type chromosomes and cells with male-type chromosomes in one bird!

Biological sex and human gender diversity is real and wonderful ❤️🏳️‍⚧️

#want, collected by #gilliananderson. Fun read. It’s comforting to know how diverse, yet how similar, so many people’s fantasies and desires are.
