I'm a collaborative doctoral award student, funded by the @swwdtp.bsky.social, and so I'm very blessed because I get to spend lots of my time at a 200+ year old historic library - The Devon and Exeter Institution. Here is a photo of me delivering a lecture there:

Humanity's future depends on strong, resilient ecosystems.🌳🐿️🐝🌱🦋

We've written a report with partners including @newcastleuni.bsky.social @nhm-london.bsky.social @zslofficial.bsky.social presenting a big-picture ecosystem approach to restoring nature.

Read it here: www.ncl.ac.uk/press/articl...
Nature recovery requires whole-ecosystem action
With one in six species threatened with extinction in the UK, senior ecologists are calling for an ecosystem approach to halt nature decline.

I helped programme this year's lecture series. Really looking forward to this one!
On 27th November, Professor Nicola Thomas will discuss the Reinterpretation of the Redvers Buller statue in Exeter. This will be a space for reflection on the presence of the colonial past in contemporary civic life. Tickets can be purchased here: www.tickettailor.com/events/devon...

I had the opportunity to put together a book display this month in the @dexinst.bsky.social (title: 'Threads through Time')! It's based on depictions of clothing in the historic book collection 📚It will be on display until this Saturday, 22 November

It was great to visit the @brlsi.bsky.social over the past two days. I got to look at an impressive set of nineteenth-century annual reports and other institutional archival materials. I was very grateful to receive the Rob Randall bursary which made this research visit possible!! ⭐️📚

What if friendship were understood not just on an individual, personal level, but as something political – a radical practice capable of upending hierarchies and producing revolutionary social change?

Laura C. Forster and Joel White reflect on radical friendship and everyday solidarities.
Friends in Common
How might we reassess friendship as a transformative, even revolutionary, political resource?

I started House of Guinness last night. Sadly, what has been seen cannot be unseen 💔 no subtlety whatsoever. Every time the "fenians" came on screen diddly-idle-dum music started playing, the costumes looked AI generated and they were all wearing different shades of green 🥴

Came across an obscure local satire serial that the @dexinst.bsky.social was subscribed to for a few years in the 1880s. Some of the members were not pleased about its presence in the reading room!

This is such a brilliant piece of #SocialHistory!

Demonstrating once again how railways were far more than just shiny locos moving carriages and goods wagons. This says so much about imagined communities & attempting to knit a workforce together ...

Great work being carried out by the team behind Railway worker deaths in GB & Ireland @rwldproject.bsky.social
Not accident related, the GS&WR at Thurles had their own cricket team. John Bracken on Clonmel team worked in the post office & is great grandfather to Kyran Bracken, England scrum half.
