Again! The comparison fails at the most basic level.
There are over 33k Hair salons & 18k Barbershops in England,(>9k hairdressers in London alone),but there are ONLY 6.29k GP practices in ALL of England, with ⬆️practices closing as unviable thru chronic underfunding.
If Wes wants ⬆️appts-INVEST in GPs!

Health & Social care professionals have warned serial Govs of this for decades(resulting in token, belated 1-off investments).
Meantime, with aging populatn, ongoing bed closures & lack of investment in staff, premises&equipment the prob grew yearly to an all year round issue most excruciating in winter

Does Jenrick dislike the central tenets of the profession he qualified into then?
THE ROLE OF THE INDEPENDENT UK JUDICIARY is solely to APPLY THE LAW AS LAID DOWN BY PARLIAMENT,(Houses of Commons & Lords + the Monarch),WITHOUT FEAR,(of reprisal),OR OF FAVOUR(unbiased).
ALL are equal before the law.

🙄 It's NOT illegal to arrive in the UK by ANY route to claim Asylum.Tho most are genuine, claimants become 'illegal' if their case is proved false whereupon they are deported.
The Con Gov closed almost all official asylum routes that start outside the UK & force claims to start only on UK soil=boats!

Yes,GP practices are not sufficiently NHS funded to be well equipped & staffed &it's not well known that GPs have always had to subsidise their practices from other, often personal, income streams to buy new equipment, adequate staffing or to provide sufficient in house services, such as phlebotomy.

Let's not forget that, unlike Influenza,Covid is not largely a winter virus but occurs in waves all year round. All methods to reduce transmission should be used to ensure people,(& especially children),are protected from unnecessary exposure to all harmful airborne viruses in enclosed public spaces.

Except Oxbridge don't get ⬆️Gov funding to educate their under grad students & UK based students pay the same fees as they would to attend any other University.
They do receive added Gov funds to support their active & successful research departments,(normally a post grad function),as do other Unis.

Exactly! We have too few GPs despite training more since decades of low investment in Primary care has led to a GP unemployment crisis as practices can't afford them.
There are many non GP staff that patients can be directed to but we do need more fully qualified GPs to safely triage, see & treat pts.
September 30, 2025 at 10:44 AM
Despite much truth in this article it lamentably failed to stress rising GP unemployment is a significant factor.
This scandal is affecting an increasing number of experienced & newly qualified GPs due to the chronic Insufficiency of primary care funding.
There's a bottle neck to that leaky bucket!

I am disappointed to see the FT write a headline with photo that conflates Immigration,(a net +ve for treasury & the country financially & in service provision),& Asylum seeking,(NOT illegal no matter what route used to enter the UK when 'irregular'entry deemed IF the asylum claim is proved false).

Exactly!Contrast the outcome of Mr Hunt's ⬇️stamp duty bill when bulk buying properties with the 'outrage' greeting Ms Rayner's purchase of,currently, her only property. That complex regulations re trust arrangements for her disabled son would act to reclassify it as a 2nd home would be specialist info
