Unfortunately, lives were lost as a result of the severe weather on Friday. Meteorologists worked tirelessly to get warnings out ahead of time. The severe staffing shortages will continue to have devastating impacts on communities when warnings can’t be issued in time. This was predictable.

This would be absolutely disastrous for meteorology, and it would ground decades of research to a halt. There is no need for this to happen when the research these professionals are doing is based in 100% scientific fact.
BREAKING from @science.org: The Trump admin is seeking to kill nearly all climate research at NOAA, its climate science agency.

Its near-final budget proposal would end all NOAA research labs, academic institutes, and regional climate centers. And it wants to fully end the NOAA Research division.

The NWS office in Paducah, which has to handle some of the most frequent and impactful weather in America and was nearly taken out by a tornado tonight ahead of a catastrophic flood event has to use a parking lot porta potty because they can’t fix plumbing due to the govt funding freeze.
Potentially tornadic storm moving right over the Paducah KY radar and NWS office. Hoping it’s not producing. Folks, the staff there deserve all the love regardless. They have worked multiple tornado events this spring already and their office doesn’t even have functioning toilets!

National Weather Service employees were encouraged to take early retirements at an all-hands meeting Thursday. The union believes as many as 1,000 could leave in the coming months - out of a workforce of just over 4,000.

2 additional radiosonde sites are temporarily suspending launches, while 6 others are reducing to one launch a day. 14 out of 83 sites now have partial or no launches.

The more radiosondes are reduced or suspended, the more noticeable the forecast skill reduction becomes.

Perspective: a particular attitude towards or way of regarding something.

We all have a different perspective on everything. That is what makes each one of us unique. Just shy of 6.5 months ago, my perspective was that while I had gained weight since high school, I wasn’t overweight.
