pretty much captures the relief of making it alive through another day of bike commuting/riding mototaxis 🥲
every evening is a sigh of relief but also a flutter of small joy knowing that i (and my loved ones) have made it home for another day. all dinners should be celebratory. we are lucky.

Got a case of bike commuter blues once again. Yknow how you think you've gotten used to riding out there after many years, and you're suddenly reminded of just how dangerous it can be? Yeah.

How do you cope?

Maybe the cure is to just keep on riding and be reminded of the joys of riding your bike?

I think it would be pretty neat than instead of celebrating when we all get a brand new product, we instead brag about how long we have had our things and still use them.
I've had my iphone 6s since 2016 and just replaced it with a hand-me-down iphone 11.

Rule of thumb for future cycling infrastructure planners:

If children can't cycle on it safely, it's not fit for purpose.

So when it comes to gift giving I really suck at keeping secrets. I just bought my holiday gift for @dddoesthings.bsky.social and I couldn't resist and I ended up telling him what it was, 30 minutes after I made the purchase 🤡

I love the dense walkable neighborhoods - thriving publishing industry - better fashion theory 🥹
"Oh, but this just shows the nerdy, detail-obsessed nature of Japanese people," you say. Perhaps. But these publications can't exist without a distribution system (i.e., newsstands). And those newsstands can't exist without *dense walkable neighborhoods.*

learning from this weekend: it's important to wear sunscreen under your clothes, and not just the exposed skin, if you're staying under the sun for long periods of time.

wore uniqlo uv protection leggings yesterday while riding my bike under the sun for hours. my legs feel sunburnt today!!

To add to this, the idea of a gated community will never be democratic: the structure of such a community must imply that there are people who will be kept out. It is not possible to have democratic access to an inherently exclusionary system. opinion.inquirer.net/178624/malai...
Malaise within gated communities
There’s a famous allegorical story by the late essayist David Foster Wallace where two fictitious fish in the ocean have a strange conversation. One of them asks the other how the water feels,

to the left is Froyo 4 years ago when his big dog collar was still too small for his puppy body. blows my mind that he's a third of the way through a golden/labrador retriever's typical lifespan :(

anyone else fall into the trap of worrying about their perfectly healthy dogs' impending deaths? haha

looked up a promising lingerie brand and they were offering "asian sizes" which unfortunately meant that most bigger girls are left out of their styles' sizing ranges 🥲

Speaking of First World problems, it is absurd and shameful that there exists a 🚳 "no bicycles" emoji but no 🚫 🚗 "no cars" emoji.

I know the post said mundane, but I also want to talk about how cycling opened me up to new friendships too! Here's my bike friends hanging out around the city on our bikes. I like saying that #BikesBringFriendships

Carried this new induction stove home!

Thought it was gonna fit in those panniers but it didnt, so I just strapped it on top of my rear rack. I was seated on the edge of my saddle for about 5 KM though haha

after almost 12 hours of not having water in our village due to a busted main pipe, i can definitely say i would rather choose to lose power than lose water at home, if i had to choose between the two.

you need water at home to shower, brush your teeth, go to the toilet

NYT Games has been so helpful with preventing doomscrolling before bed. I just try to solve Connections, play Spelling Bee or Tiles, or solve the daily crossword and they're enough to make me sleepy
