I hate the over– and misuse of “unpopular opinion” but I might have one: social media can be used for just broadcasting, and is probably best used that way. “Conversation” and “engagement” was pushed by the owners so we stay on their apps for their profit. Byeee!
at first i was unsure, but now im totally cool with the dead person’s standee on display at their wake (and people getting their pictures with it)

my hope, before we head back to the trenches, is that we were able to spend at least a day of this weekend according to our feelings. and that the trenches be actual meanigul work, or at least, let’s us be around kind, lighthearted people.

A humorless writer can never be a great writer. Not saying all writing needs to be a laff riot. But a sense of humor is a sign of a lively mind, and if you don't have it, you are lacking some part of the imagination.

a very useful skill to have is being able to spot a narcissist. and to mangle a line from rounders (john dahl, 1998), if you can't spot the narcissist at the table, then you are the narcissist.

I’m at that age when going to a wake is an important obligation even if sometimes I, for some reason, instinctively deprioritize it. I regret that. So many people showed up when my dad passed. I hope to honor the loss and grief of my people.

The work of Stephen Shore, his formalism, a desire to be invisible and just present the image, is foundational to my own work. I knew he was a prodigy, I didn’t know he was this much of a prodigy. Enjoyed reading this profile.

discouraging to see film critics lose their roles. there was a time, even in the internet age, where there was legitimate space for cultural criticism. our mistake was thinking billionaires would preserve those spaces.

i know it is modern to hate on love actually and the kiera knightly story line is indeed icky, but "just in cases" is a classic and the jamie - aurelia story is the best. i have watched their restaurant scene 2x already and it isn't even lunch yet.

i think i wanted a little more structure from "food delivery," the documentary that gives us a glimpse into the lives of the military personnel and fisherfolk who inhabit our west philippine sea. a little more definition, to accompany the beautiful footage.
