I try not to be an alt text scold but come on, folks. If you can screen cap a quote from the article you can also copy and paste the words into the alt text.

- Put all the necessary info first
- Put extra, skippable content at the end
- Screen readers try to read things phonetically, so use periods for acronyms. (Examples: 8 a.m. instead of 8 am. I.C.Y.M.I. instead of ICYMI)

Use @bsky.app's built-in alt text reminder to make a habit of adding alt text to your images!
Go to Settings > Accessibility. Then, toggle on "Require alt text before posting".
It will notify you when you try to post images without alt text and disable the "Post" button until it is added.

To build a culture where alt text is seen as the important tool that it is … it’s literally providing sight to those who can’t see.

PPS - if you truly have issues composing your own alt text due to disability, there is a group of volunteers here who can help. Just use the # alt4me hashtag in your post. Someone will add the text in a reply. But don't do this is you're just lazy.

Alt text does not need to be hard to write. You do not have to write paragraphs. In fact, in most cases you probably shouldn't. People using screen readers are not likely to want to have to listen to a 3 minute alt text of you describing your cat.
