Samuel Green, a slave from Maryland, was one of the co-founders of the Centenary Biblical Institute. The Methodist Episcopal Church founded the school in 1867 to educate Black men who were freed from slavery. The school became Morgan College in 1890 & then Morgan State University in 1975.
