Ugh, this will launch me into a rough book hangover, I just know it. This has probably been my favorite book of the year so far. Absolutely stunning; I don’t think I’ve thought so much about about how a book made me feel after finishing it. 5 stars for this gem.

What a unique blend of sci-fi and fiction. It’s a book within a book, a fascinating depiction of Nigerian and Nigerian-American culture (especially to this readers ignorant eyes), and an exploration of what it means to be a storyteller. I’m still pondering the ending but I loved it. 5⭐️

Ok, I have been plowing through Murderbot and this has been my favorite. How I love this series!

If you need an escape, these books are such a delight. Fun, emotionally intelligent, and well-paced to keep those pages turning. Excellent slump busters!

My third Austen this year. Classics have been a respite; I find it difficult to read anything set in more modern times, as they were written before all of…this.

Unfortunately, the plot of this book was so familiar (thanks Clueless!) that it wasn’t as engaging for me. Still a worthy read!

What am I even supposed to read and or do when I finish the Murderbot Diaries? 😭 I’m on book 5 and I’m so invested and immersed. The hangover is going to be brutal. 🤖

Omg another snowstorm. The kids haven’t had a full week of school since early December. I love my kids but my god, I need some structure 😭😭😭❄️

I began looking for a fun bookish fantasy, and ended it satisfied but also wondering why there needed to be so much death and gore. It almost leans into horror at some points, with truly evil big bads.
Sensitive readers, just know this isn’t a fluffy book about magic books. 3.75 stars

I finally read Pride and Prejudice, my first Jane Austen novel. The bookish world seems to so often reference her; I always felt like I was missing something!

I feel kind of proud of myself for managing (to understand) a classic in these distracted times.

Which Austen to tackle next?

Holy moly.
5 dazed stars.

We’re with Ben, he’s on a path. He can’t leave the path or he’ll die; but if he stays on the path he’ll never die.

Not horror, not fantasy, it’s something else. I loved it.

I was iffy on this one. The first half is bleak and as someone who has struggled with depression, really affecting. Not in a good way. While I enjoyed the second half, the bubbly lightness and tidy wrap-up required quite a bit of magical thinking.

Witty, insightful. Trigger warnings!

Please, please don’t give up guys. Everything that’s happening right now is designed to overwhelm, create anxiety, and confuse all of us.

Don’t give in ❤️

I don’t know what to say that hasn’t already been said about this book. I almost feel unworthy of adding to the much-deserved glowing discourse.

It was so thoughtful, harrowing at times, and yet also remarkably tender. It was an utterly unputdownable story. 5 stars.

If you're feeling overwhelmed, it's intentional. They're calling it "flooding the zone." The intent is to overwhelm and exhaust us so we can not effectively resist. Something simple you can do right now now is to make sure to take breaks and rest.

Ok, did I love this book or did I love Tom Hanks reading it to me? Hmm. I liked the story, though it ran out of steam about 75% through. We spent a lot of time loitering in cars outside of the house well after it was relevant to the characters lives!

Solid 4 stars, especially on audio.

Finit. As I rated it on Storygraph, I found myself having no idea what to say in my review. I was stunned by it; it opened a creaky door into feelings I thought I’d left behind in my teens and 20s.

It’s not for everyone but if it ends up being for you, you’ll love it.

Excited to see Saskia Maarleveld on here for narrating “The Briar Club”, which was one of my favorite audio book experiences of the year.

Whatever happens, never forget: READING FOR PLEASURE has the biggest positive impact of any factor on children's life chances. So always make time to share books with kids, and help them find books to love. Make reading central to everything you do. It will change their lives forever!

It’s 16F outside and I am pondering by what means I can throw myself into the sun. Perhaps a plane ticket to Australia instead.

Reading a book set in the summer is so interesting when it’s this cold. It’s almost like reading fantasy.
