A friend drove two hours today for her breast cancer chemotherapy only to learn it was canceled due to NIH cuts. Clinical trial ended midstream. No treatment, no restart, no plan, no information. Her bro-in-law's chemo was also canceled.

I’m so ashamed for my country right now. We should be so much better than this. Being an American used to mean more than “cutting deals” and berating victims of aggression to feel tough. We are losing what so many patriots before us have built and defended in blood and treasure. Very sad.

Set aside the appalling juvenile conduct from Trump/Vance: it’s also just weak on its own terms vis-a-vis the negotiations with Putin. It doesn’t create leverage to berate a party in full view of the world and show Putin you’re ready to fold.

A rough calculation dividing the $200 billion in aid to Ukraine by the 800 million people in the US and EU would mean that each Westerner gave Ukraine about $250. Most of this money was not given directly to Ukraine, but was invested in its own defense sector. I am grateful to everyone for this.
