This is why I love fandom. It’s a community built around a shared belief or interest, giving us a starting point for our activism.

He calls me on speakerphone while on an overnight school trip.
Me: what’s up? What do you need money for?
Teen: I miss you and love you mom.
Me: You’re playing truth or dare and you chose dare, huh?

Having a teenager is like adopting a feral cat. You have to feed it and give it shelter. And it rarely comes out during the day. And when it does it mostly just hisses at you.

I don't know who needs to hear this today, but Psyduck is our chronic illness and migraine baby and proof that mobility aids are for everyone.

Especially goofy given if they choose to get the degree, they are then told not to focus on their own lived experience because they’re too close to it and biased. The end result of these two policies is no one with direct knowledge talking about it at all.
Idk if its people being stupid or just plain disingenuous but the idea that sex workers don't count as experts of their own lived experiences if they don't have degrees in sociology or anthropology or whatever is goofy ass take

You don't need a degree to tell your own damn story! You were there!

Things that never cease to fascinate me: When I stand up to assholes and get a bunch of DMs thanking me.
It’s not a super power. It’s literally just doing the bare fucking minimum.

“Be badass but make it geeky.”
Bet.
Music and theatre are a huge part of who I am. What better way to celebrate them than to turn them into a tattoo?
Several bars from “One Day More” is now this chest and neck piece.
I will always stop and listen to this song.

Part of the reason I love music and arts is the community it creates. One of my friends is struggling in an uhealthy relationship and living situation.

As part of the community, I'm asking that if you can't donate here - to please reshare for visibility.

On this Monday morning of Hacker Summer Camp, I grant this blessing:

May the caffeine rise up to meet you.

May the buzz words be always behind your back.

May the badge-ins shine bright upon your tablet.

The Vegas ceilings not collapse upon your heads.

I took some time to escape from the insanity of the world and put down some rambling thoughts about the rise and fall of the summer blockbuster.

I realize that I may miss the 90s more than the 80s.

I’m in my cozy era.
Books about witches running inns or orcs running coffee shops.
When you google “cozy book,” you get mysteries.
Explain the thinking behind “let’s bake bcookies and kit sweaters while we figure out who killed this random person in our otherwise sleepy town” as a whole ass genre?

If you're in the Hartford area this weekend and going to Connecticon, @ajoconnell.bsky.social and @pixiedane.bsky.social and I are hosting a panel about how geeks can use their built-in fandom communities as one of the tools for activism.
We're also giving out sweet, sweet badge ribbons.

After having no solid, real world number for estimating audit costs, I made a few assumptions. I pulled a few hourly wages. I made some timing guesstimates based on my past life.
Shout out to Help Net for accepting this for publication and Sonia Awan at Outbloom Media for connecting me.

Me: two extra
Barista: *looks dubious* hands me drink
Me: thank you! And when my heart explodes I absolutely know I only have myself to blame.
