Our new paper is out in PLOS Biology! I'm very conflicted about the project: proud because it feels like the most important project I've ever been a part of, but also very sad that we found so many problems in our field.

Read the paper here: journals.plos.org/plosbiology/...
Erroneous articles can undermine scientific progress & mislead future research. Rene Aquarius &co show that 40% of articles on early #BrainInjury in animal studies have #ImageDuplication & #ImageManipulation problems, but correction by #journals remains limited @plosbiology.org 🧪 plos.io/4p59QzN

Something that keeps coming up during #PublicationIntegrityWeek is that (1) research integrity/ethics is a systemic issue that requires investment from every single stakeholder for meaningful change and (2) all of these groups have different ideas about what the others should be responsible for

I'm excited to be attending the Peer Review Congress this week! It's always fascinating to hear about the research on strategies and signs of misconduct, but I'm equally looking forward to learning about ways we can improve peer review and the publishing process as a whole for researchers #PRC10

I've created a public link to the dashboard on a paper mill I'm currently investigating. It's possible to track the dynamics of paper mill identification. Later, I'll add a reaction profile, which is currently at zero.

Incredibly insightful panel about the numerous challenges whistleblowers face trying to shed light on untrustworthy science. There are a lot of opportunities for publishers and institutions to build bridges with the sleuth community and support their work!
Looking forward to participating in this @stmassoc.bsky.social session in April "Beyond fabricated research articles: questionable research practices and their consequences over time" with Adya Misra, Rachel Safer, and @mumumouse2.bsky.social.

Whistleblowers deserve support when it comes to navigating the legal nuances of reporting fraud and misconduct -- the fear of retaliation, lack of organizational protection, and lack of compensation make investigating difficult to sustain.
