So, the story of Hollywood at war was complex. You had Germans like Conrad Veidt and Marlene Dietrich telling Nazis to stuff it, you had Americans like Walt Disney hosting Leni Riefstahl just after Kristallnacht. You had Greta Garbo proclaiming that she would love to assassinate Hitler.

Charlie Chaplin got away with it because he could produce completely independently and was part-owner of United Artists but most of Hollywood went along with the "be nice to Nazis" or at least "don't get graphic" rules in the leadup to WWII.

I joked the entire time I lay bleeding to death. Ukranian troops made Tik Tok dance videos on the internet. The Civil Rights movement created joyful music and art. Rich fucking white people on the other hand just sitting around lamenting about how terrible the camps will be.
