Thanks to @marshadecordova.bsky.social for saying what we need her to: PIP is not an out-of-work benefit; the UN reported that UK's austerity regime led to violations of disabled people's rights; the govt needs to consult with disabled people. Good to hear other MPs making social model arguments

That's my MP! She grew up in the parish neighbouring mine and knows what it's like for communities like this, already on the underside of multiple layers of entrenched inequality. So she sees - and names - the dangererous naivety of this bill in a way too many MPs are refusing to engage with.
'There is an assumption that those who have been most unequal in life will suddenly be rendered equal in death.' - Chi Onwurah on how the AD bill risks entrenching inequalities in our care system.

The Ordinary Office is a community that celebrates life and supports those with vulnerabilities - all of us at some time in our lives. Assisted death should only come once we can adequately assist abundant life. Today's bill passing will not promote that.

@amnestyuk.bsky.social has found the UK social security system to be 'consciously cruel'. Link to their report in the article, plus an easy read version.

Chronic illness forces a different pace, and it never feels like a positive at the time.

Only later do you realise what an enrichment it is... to have to go slow, honour your humanity, respect your body, savour the small things.

The number of hospital patients who come to us in Psychology for help with anxiety, when what's actually happening is basic care needs arent being met. Many of these people dont really need to see a psychologist, & it's important to acknowledge how it's our ragged system that's driving the anxiety.

Having a not good mental health day. Won’t go into details but every thought is difficult. If you’re struggling too, in whatever way, I’m sending love. Here are some small lovely things arranged neatly by my daughter. It’ll help your brain a little if it’s anxious & low. I’m staring at it too tbh:

From the roadside honesty florist (stick a quid in an old pan) in Wicken,July. My photo’s inspired by the work of Rachel Ruysch (1664-1750). Research shows that when we look at something we find visually appealing dopamine’s released in our brains, lifting mood & improving mental health slightly:

I plan to post at least one of my photos a day here on Bluesky. I design each of my photos using recent research into the benefits to mental health of looking at plants & patterns in nature.
Making my collections relaxes my noisy autistic+ADHD brain & they'll relax yours by looking at them here:

Research shows that simply looking at the fractal patterns in nature shifts our brains away from fight or flight & into rest/digest mode, alleviating anxiety & helping us recover from stress more quickly.
Zoom in to the pattern detail in my photo, it’ll help if your Friday afternoon’s angst-ridden👇🏼
