I use Claude AI and it has a reference to my entire project. When I'm trying to track down an issue with a specific logic path, it's a lot better at following that path than I am.
Also it can be good for a starting point but shouldn't be the end-all

I feel like a traditional game design doc is more useful in big teams where everyone needs to be on the same page about things.

The game that got me into gamedev though.. Hollow Knight
I wanna build both types of games eventually, but I figured starting with a tactics style game would be better for learning how systems work together.

If you have a job that keeps the lights on and can work in your spare time, I'd say that's the better way to go.
