If Oprah and The Rock, a billionaire and a multi-millionaire, have the guts to ask you for donations for Maui, you can go ask that girl out.

West Maui needs your much needed help. We’ve been doing The Time Machine Radio Show on Maui for nearly 33 years. Heartbreaking devastation. First attempt at getting online to join BlueSky and reach out to the world. Mahalo.

This is a really interesting read on what is going on with the tourist situation on Maui right now: Because the island is so dependent on tourism, many people want the tourists to come back...even as there are larger tensions around tourism in the islands in general.

Good breakdown of what's currently happening in Maui re: control of water:
"Environmental groups & Native Hawaiian advocates say the landowners are using the destruction of Lahaina as an excuse to bank water they don’t need for fire safety — a continuation of plantation water hoarding."
The Lahaina Blaze Is Rekindling An Old Debate Over Using Water To Fight Fires
Supreme Court Justices last week upbraided a lawyer who accused a lower court judge of failing to ensure there was adequate water to fight the blazes.

Here in Lahaina Maui we call this view "The back of Front Street". This view is seen from the Library Park. My original painting, the park and Front Street have all been destroyed by the Lahaina fire on August 8th. I have prints available here

I hope all the people, white folks in particular, posting photos of their family vacations in Maui with sad face and heart emojis are also sending money to help people survive.

Oprah is a joke. She has enough money to rebuild Maui by herself. No need for a fund. Just use your own money. She could house displaced families on her property.
@CBSMornings: Oprah Winfrey and Dwayne Johnson are teaming up to create the "People’s Fund of Maui,” with the goal of giving cash directly to those affected by the deadly wildfires.

They’re giving $10 million to get the fund started — and are calling on others to make donations. https://t.co/Nkjlbu
