Yes, please buy directly from authors when you can. I ran into this issue with file size in the illustrated version of Cowry Catchers a decade ago with Amazon. There is no reason for them to maintain these archaica specs, but they do.
Pro tip: buy direct from Joaquín's website! If you want to use the kindle app, you can upload the epub file via 'send to kindle'!

For slow readers (like myself) this is probably the right time to mention that most of Abbie's books have really excellent audio versions. Rish Outfield's intepretation of the different characters just elevate the stories into something truly special to me!
