Underground utilities may make it difficult to build directly on top of the street, but if there are clear areas, maybe!

Another option is something like the Park Blocks in Portland - A linear park in the middle, narrow streets on either side, lots of housing on the surrounding blocks.

Sometimes when I see the meme about how "1990 was 10 years ago" I think back about the books, TV, etc of that time, and well, the 1990s were a long time ago... 🙃🫠

That mortgage chart is indeed ugly. For a savings of less than $10 a day, on retirement someone would only have paid off 1/4 of the house, rather than the whole thing. Why even bother buying at that point?

Its always amusing when people try to separate railroads, perhaps the one industry most connected to US politics in our country's entire history, from politics 😂🙃🫠

A nice hat and the daily newspaper completes the look! I still read paper newspapers in part since it's hard to get phone signal undergound on the BART.

In California and many other states, we also have a dozen plus state and local ballot measures as well. Typically where I live the ballot has four pages.

In the East Bay, sometimes it can take more than a week to know who won if an election is close.

California allows ballots postmarked on Election Day a week to arrive at the elections office. We also allow time for ballot curing - for example, if someone didn't sign their ballot, they can fix it.
