Underground utilities may make it difficult to build directly on top of the street, but if there are clear areas, maybe!

Another option is something like the Park Blocks in Portland - A linear park in the middle, narrow streets on either side, lots of housing on the surrounding blocks.

Bay Area bikeshare only covers parts of the East Bay, and most bikeshare docks at the edge of the service area have low ridership since not all nearby destinations are bikeable.

However, the docks near UC #Berkeley are heavily used, event with densely populated areas to the east unserved.
October 27, 2025 at 8:10 PM
San Jose only has bikeshare docks in a limited area of the city. Popular destinations include SJSU, downtown, San Pedro Square, and the train station.

Came across this map showing where Bay Area bikeshare trips start and end. Some, but not all transit stations are popular, there's also a lot of people who bike the length of Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. 🚲

My spiciest take on the Highway 37 bridge is that while most political will for it has been coming from Solano, it's Marin that needs it and should pay for it. Of 189,000 workers living in Solano, only 8,000 go to Marin or Sonoma.

It'd cost a whole lot less than $11B to attract new jobs to Solano.

This section has a highlight on healthcare, as one of today's main issues is access to trans healthcare. Even in places where it's legal, there are issues such as not enough providers, gatekeeping that adds extra hoops for people to get the right medicine at the right dosage, etc.

A lot of stuff in the next phase, which is about building out community institutions and services, already exist in San Francisco and many other major cities. San Francisco established an official Transgender District in 2017, with funding for services, events, businesses transgenderdistrictsf.com

Thinking about how Transtown would start - well, the beginnings are already there in many places - a group of people living together! Could the trans version of the village association be the polycule? 😂
