Thoughts and prayers with national media editors who breathlessly opened live blogs to cover the railway's GSM-R "chaos" only to discover it's a relatively minor problem, and who are now having to keep the coverage open to avoid looking stupid.

If you really care about productivity, why aren't you examining the value of mandatory code review? I know this is my least popular take, but it remains unclear to me that it improves quality commensurate to cost, and it's the most unquestioned shibboleth in tech today

Back when, Bill Mantlo had a habit of occasionally plagiarizing stuff in comics, under the impression that it was fine because everyone did it. But he made the mistake of plagiarizing an Ellison story in HULK, and the shit hit the fan, because Harlan actually read it.

My landlord was one of the best people in my life. My bosses, too, except for one. I don't get that part of it, feels like an easy target for stupid hate speech.
vote, you little shits. vote because

- your landlord will vote
- your boss will vote
- every nasty little greedy bitcoin bro who thinks women should be assigned to men for sex will vote
- anti abortionists will vote
- evangelist christians will vote
- your racist uncle will vote

FUCKING VOTE

I honestly believe that if a stranger blocking you on social media results in significant psychological damage, the block is not the problem (and the blocker cannot be held accountable in any way)

My general opinion is that “good vibes only” is not a great strategy for life but is a perfectly good — possibly optimal — one for social media. If someone makes you furrow your brow a millimeter, go ahead and block, this is just a weird little phone app we’re hanging out on for a minute

When you use a quote to justify a programming (or really, any) argument, always look up the quote's original context and purpose. You don't want to trot out "no plan survives contact with the enemy" only to learn that the quotee wrote 500 pages on how awesome plans were and we should all plan more

It's even worse than you'd think; the original website clearly shows it as a human tricking chatGPT, and then Google turned that into a "snippets answer".

(It no longer shows that as the top snippet though)
