Not to mention that despite complaining elsewhere that the BBC is supposedly too much of a "liberal bubble" unrepresentative of the public, they're now complaining that the BBC's coverage of Trump... was too representative of the public?

To me, this is true beauty
November 9, 2025 at 9:44 PM
Also ngl, I get deeply immaturely amused by the Tatarised name for Zhytomyr
November 9, 2025 at 9:42 PM
And of course, who is to blame? Of course it's the nefarious kids and gays, scheming to destroy their elders and (Hadley supposes) betters from the shadows.

Freeman goes on to assert that "apologies never satisfy witchfinder generals like Rajesh, Singh and Suleyman", they apparently wanted more. Her evidence for this is... one of them later tweeted negatively about Clanchy being interviewed by the Times. That's it.
November 9, 2025 at 5:12 PM
God, the whole article is so deeply dishonest. Clanchy's book was "suddenly derided" - no mention that the "sudden" trigger was Clanchy loudly demanding an obscure Goodreads review be taken down b/c of racist quotes she claimed were made up, prompting everyone to check and find out they were genuine

My god this BBC criticism report is by a man who thinks professional wrestling is a genuine competitive sport.
November 9, 2025 at 1:51 PM
If I was seeking to justify transphobia with a prominent and profound-sounding quote, I personally would choose someone other than a man who's made it his life's work to "scientifically prove" that all the people who've said they were abused as children by priests are just Catholic-hating liars.
November 9, 2025 at 4:03 AM
Also the article itself is just all over the place. Urban simultaneously criticises the BBC, barely a paragraph apart, for being both too unrepresentative and also too representative!

Going to Ypres and being like "These foreigners have no right to wear the poppy"
November 8, 2025 at 4:23 PM
This is deeply traumatising to me and I'll never be able to unsee it.
November 7, 2025 at 6:15 AM
Ah, I remember back in my day when this was an abruptly shuttered and empty "Jamie's Italian"...
November 6, 2025 at 8:35 PM
The moment we've all been waiting for
November 6, 2025 at 7:53 PM
And the answer, of course, is when it's an opportunity to bash trans people.
November 6, 2025 at 3:39 AM
Let's try one more. Anyone want to hazard a guess as to when Brendan changed his mind about whether or not genital mutilation is bad?
November 6, 2025 at 2:40 AM
And if your answer to this one was "5 minutes after Maidan", then congratulations, you were right!
November 6, 2025 at 2:20 AM
To confirm what you probably already knew - yes, he suddenly changed his mind as soon as the abusers weren't White.
November 6, 2025 at 2:19 AM
He doesn't say "can".
November 6, 2025 at 2:12 AM
While you're at it, here's another guessing game for you. Here's Brendan in 2012 talking about Ukrainian Neo-Nazi thugs (laudatory).

I WONDER IF YOU CAN GUESS WHEN HE CHANGED HIS TUNE ON THIS?
November 6, 2025 at 1:40 AM
In fact, Brendan's writings right up until the late 2010s are full of dismissals of child abuse as a moral panic, something that never ever really happens much, no big deal, etc etc...

...until... I mean, do really need me to say when he abruptly completely changed his mind about this?
November 6, 2025 at 1:37 AM
(Oh, and in case any of you thought that was the bottom...)
November 6, 2025 at 12:51 AM
Anyone, what do you think women have to worry about from men anyway? Obviously it can't be rape/sexual assault, because you've assured me that never happens and it's all just hysteria.
November 6, 2025 at 12:50 AM
Seems like you're really committed to women's spaces and women's liberation, Brendan? I'm sure this is something you sincerely believe and would never denigrate, right?
November 6, 2025 at 12:45 AM
Wow, Brendan, you're so right, imagine going back in time a decade or so and saying men shouldn't try to look at women's naked bodies without consent...
November 6, 2025 at 12:40 AM
Life comes at you fast, huh Brendan?
