This a great piece. If you are interested in the South China Sea/West Philippines Sea, read it.
Proudly sharing my latest for Blue Security: A Maritime Affairs Series.

At its simplest, my argument is that in the law of the sea, history is here to stay, and international lawyers better watch out how it's being deployed in particularly harmful and violent ways.
OUT NOW Maritime Affairs Issue 12 | Making History, Making Archipelagos: A Parallel South China Sea Dispute by @alexpdelacruz.bsky.social looks at the relationship between the LOS Convention and the construction of historical narratives to support maritime claims.

I wish you a long and healthy life to stand trial for your crimes here 🇳🇱

May you be so healthy that no judge worth their election to the International Criminal Court, taking one look at you, would hear from you a phony plea of physical unfitness or frailty to face trial.

Great piece from @alexpdelacruz.bsky.social on the South China Sea and what law applies within archipelagic waters.

Why the Philippines made a dramatic turnaround on the question of archipelagos in the law of the sea
And strangely enough, it means China and the Philippines have traded positions.

China's condemnation of the enactment of the Philippine Archipelagic Sea Lanes Act and the Philippine Maritime Zones Act signals a shift in positions on the concept of archipelagos for both China and the Philippines - see @alexpdelacruz.bsky.social in @lowyinstitute.bsky.social The Interpreter

New @lowyinstitute.bsky.social piece by @bluesecprogram.bsky.social 2024 Fellow @alexpdelacruz.bsky.social:
Strangely, its now China which uses concept of archipelagos albeit contrary to int law to assert territorial & maritime claims - not unlike how PH had done in the past before advent of UNCLOS.

In my first op-ed for @bluesecprogram.bsky.social, I comment on the newly enacted archipelagic sea lanes and maritime zones legislation of the Philippines.

“‘Starter Pack Mania’ was a period during the Bluesky Golden Age when the use of the fashionable starter pack reached extraordinarily high levels. The bubble burst when creators couldn’t add everyone from their disciplines fast enough, some got offended, and others went into existential crises.”

man, a series of editorial rejections have really put me down several notches after the high of getting a phd without amendments. win some, lose some.
