I'd say everyone should try using lisp for a few projects. It changes the way you think about programs. Personally I find fennel makes my life easier than vanilla Lua. More it has consistent syntax and a wide set of iterator macros.

Fennel, a lisp that compiles to lua, is my goto. It offers the minimalist symantics of lua and the homogeneous syntax of lisp.

Making good progress so far. Music done, tiling done, tomorrow is art.
