Me as a baby trainee Assistant Director
set of X-Files, spring 1998.
A young white woman (me) with longish red hair sits in a director chair on a film set at North Shore Studios in North Vancouver, BC. I’m wearing black-framed glasses and an over-the-head style walkie headset. (Later that year I upgraded to a secret service- style in-ear headset model. I’m sitting awkwardly in the chair (because I wasn’t supposed to be sitting in it at all as such a junior position on the crew) and looking over my shoulder to camera. It was the end of the season and the show was moving to LA for season six so we were all messing around sitting in chairs and taking pictures we normally would not. The chair back has the X-Files logo. The blue sweatshirt I’m wearing was the crew gift at the end of season five.

You guys you guys YOU GUYS. Most successful sourdough loaf yet. (Attempt number 4.) looks great on the outside, hope the inside is also delightful. (I mixed up another loaf this evening to bake tomorrow. Because the teenager will eat an entire loaf all by himself every day if I let him. 🍜🍽️🍞

Progress on the “perfect orange” blanket for my sister’s eldest. He loves the colour, and while not my first choice, it’s growing on me. Pattern is “Joyful Dance” by Helen Shrimpton. 🧶

I also decided it’s a biscotti day. 🍽️🍜
Ingredients for biscotti on a kitchen counter: baking powder, sugar, salt, anise seed, whole almonds, vanilla extract, lemons(for zesting), eggs, flour, and orange zest. I neede orange juice for my slow cooker carnitas but didn’t want to waste the zest. So now I need to make biscotti to use up the orange zest. Baking logic.

Okay, clafoutis is out of the oven and plum crumble has just gone in. I'm going to make some protein/egg bites next for easy breakfasts as we hit our back-to-school stride. 🍽️🍲

Granola is cooling, clafoutis in the oven. Next up: plum crumble with the amazing plums my colleague gave me from her tree. And at some point I am sure I will make something savoury… (That basil plant on the table’s about to become pesto.) 🍜🍽️

All the ingredients for granola gathered on a kitchen counter, most of them in jars/bins because I buy most things in bulk. On the left is a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, on the right a large mixing bowl to put it all together. Ingredients: black sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, dried cranberries, cinnamon, chia seeds, sliced almonds, white sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, vanilla extract, honey, vegetable oil, rolled oats, and salt.

Progress on the orange blanket. #Crochet #WIP 🧶
Bright orange crochet blanket work in progress, an update photo from one I posted a couple of days ago. Completed round 42 and it’s not blanket-sized yet but on its way. The eight points of the pattern are gradually being added to in a way that will make the blanket a square in a few more rounds.
