Ahead of Budget, where do voters stand on tax and the dilemmas facing government?

Big new @persuasionuk.bsky.social report out today on this.

TL;DR as risky as breaching the manifesto is for Lab - failing on public services, cost of living and child poverty is *far riskier* for Lab.

"Most of us basically love our country, even if begrudgingly – not the version we’re told to, or even presented with, but the one we really see and live in every day. Silly Sausage Britain is the Britain most of us reside in, and love."

I'm in @labourlist.bsky.social before locals later this week, arguing that drawing the right lessons from a result is almost as important as whether you won or lost – and that the party has been stuck over-correcting from losing the Uxbridge by-election for 2 years:

NEW: Who are the voters Labour risks losing to Reform?

How might Lab unite them with the rest of its election winning coalition? How might Reform win them over?

Some big new research out today with @persuasionuk.bsky.social as featured by @greenmirandahere.bsky.social in today's FT 🧵👇

The two 'soft ends' of Labour's coalition are Reform curious voters on right, Green curious voters on left.

Looking at their values, they're relatively far apart on culture but united on economics.

Reform curious Lab voters are also notably more left-wing economically than wider Reform vote.

On today's big Drax decision by govt - very pleased to see the principles LCEF has been pushing for recognised in this new deal.

✅Profit loopholes closed
✅Drastic reduction of subsidies and supply
✅100% sustainability supply chain standards
✅Windfall tax on excessive profits

This is a really strong and clearly argued column by @willhaycardiff.bsky.social in the Guardian. Best bit of advice: "Evidence-based policy does work, but you have to own it, explain it and stay the course."
