FT reports, possibly covered elsewhere too, that Apple shipped ten planes worth of iPhones from China to the US last week, to avoid tariffs. That's somewhere between 200,000 and 450,000 devices per plane.

Here's some good news to savour amongst all the gloom. At yesterday's Apple annual shareholder meeting, an anti-DEI proposal was rejected with 97% against. The silly think tank asserted that “forced diversity is bad for business.”

Literally the most successful business on the planet.

Big move from Apple, and the one they said they would make if forced. They have pulled Advanced Data Protection for Apple Accounts based in the UK. Cannot enable ADP from 15.00GMT today, and existing users will have it disabled soon.

Some classic Apple nonsense shining through on the new iPhone 16e. Visual Intelligence which can only be accessed through Camera Control on iPhone 16/16 Pro, can be accessed through the 16e's Action Button. So why not bring it to the iPhones 15?

Regular non-tech people are discovering that they can stop their phone buzzing at night by turning on do not disturb https://buff.ly/3X6ygwZ
The one change that worked: I set my phone to ‘do not disturb’ three years ago – and have never looked back
WhatsApp notifications in the middle of the night were the final straw. I switched those off – and every other alert – and it helped my wellbeing, sleep and parenting

Reading the comments on a Reddit thread about iOS 18.3 release and they are universally negative. It's true on /r/apple and on MacRumors. I've been reading comments on Apple posts for 20 years or more, and I've never known unrelenting negativity like this.

Is Apple losing its core base?

Apple's stock price now trails its 52-day high by 15% and is 10% in the red for 2025 so far. Analyst ratings, are now firmly in "Overpriced".

Tim Cook's problem is that the stock market is a prediction of the future. And there's not a lot of Apple's horizon to turn this round. A crisis brewing?

Someone at Apple Music has flicked some kind of switch that was preventing Kanye West from appearing in Siri generated playlists ("Hey Siri, play me something" requests). All of a sudden in the last few days, plenty of Ye to be had. Still no return of the Essentials playlist. Just a matter of time?

The spurious argument that the Supreme Court is using to ban TikTok in the US is the same evidence-less nonsense they used in the UK to ban, and actively remove, Huawei equipment from our phone network.

Someone at Apple is _not_ happy about all the reports last week about Siri listening to you and passing on data to advertisers.

In a statement(!): "Apple has never used Siri data to build marketing profiles, never made it available for advertising, and never sold it to anyone for any purpose."

Misreporting about misreporting. Apple can’t catch a break, after most news outlets reported last week that Siri was sending data to third-party advertisers. It’s not.

Now reputable news org @tortoisemedia.bsky.social claims that the on-device summary notifications are being “powered by OpenAI”.

Apple isn’t much interested in price pressure from competitors, so don’t expect a big shift in the current display lineup.

But it’s good to know a panel of this quality is out there, 32-inch iMac anyone?

Why does Apple Music Replay, Spotify Wrapped, NYT’s photos of the year, and even a computer generated album of photos from the year past come out before the year has ended?

Why not release these in the bit before new year when everyone is sat around doing nothing? Or even better…January?
