A ★★★★★ review of Days of Heaven (1978)
What struck me more than the beauty this time around is the deep, deep sadness that permeates throughout this film. Linda Manz is the heart of this film. Possibly the best narrator in any film...ever?...

I'm really chipping away at some canon stalwarts these past two weeks. Saw Seven Samurai last week and thought surely that was Kurosawa at his peak. Then I saw High and Low. The man's talent was obscene.

A ★★★★★ review of High and Low (1963)
I love when I watch a movie and go "Oh! So that one thing from that one movie came from this movie" and in High and Low that happens about 30 times. Besides being a Mozart-level genius director, can w...

It's full-on spooky how on the money this old MadTV skit still is. (BTW Nicole Sullivan is an unheralded comedic genius)

First time seeing Jean de Florette and Manon of the Spring. Can't believe I've gone this long without seeing these two. Astonished and fully gutted. Shattering masterpieces.

A man's lust and obsession has never been so physically repulsive. What a performance from Daniel Auteuil. And Yves Montand. What a giant of an actor. The ending is absolutely shattering. I'll be rewa...

I thought this was a total knockout. Dakota Johnson is one of my favorite girlies, Pedro brought tons of gravitas and charisma, and Chris Evans really flexed his acting chops here. But the star is Cel...

The Life of Chuck. Man, that opening act is pretty damn spectacular. King is the person who got me into reading books and this is a King story through and through - and a film about dying... and when it finally happens - my god I'm going to miss our Uncle Steve.
The Life of Chuck (2024)
In this extraordinary story of an ordinary man, Charles 'Chuck' Krantz experiences the wonder of love, the heartbreak of loss, and the multitudes contained in all of us.

Is @hollywoodtheatre.org trying to clean me out of my paycheck this summer? I got those 2001 and Boogie Nights in 70mm, and Days of Heaven in 35mm tickets so damn fast I burned up that keyboard. Bless that membership.

Served up whole body goosebumps from beginning to end. One subplot was kinda stupid/unnecessary but my god did this creep me out. Going to try to sleep ok now....
