OpenAI, one of the most prominent AI companies in the world, just released a model trained BLATANTLY on stolen IP.

It's obvious that rights are being violated, and it's also obvious that existing enforcement is not preventing these violations: they press onward.

The EU must enforce its rules

There have been very few rights afforded to workers that have been granted without struggle.

When new technology is developed, some companies try pretending that existing legislation does not apply to that technology, to gain advantage.

So we must always be vigilant and fight for what is right.

It is not a job for artists to ensure that AI companies can exist.

They must fight to exist playing by the same rules as everyone else.

Company innovation can happen on many fronts, be it technological, legislative or licensing.

But if a business is built on theft, there is no saving it.

US friends, there's a short deadline on this request for public comment. Literally TODAY!
If you have a moment to write, PLEASE DO.

They want to "prevent unnecessarily burdensome requirements from hindering private sector innovation".

The implication here is removing Copyright protections.
If you are in any creative or copyright dependent org of any kind, NOW is the time to speak up. You have until March 15 11:59 pm EST to send a note to the WhiteHouse on why we need to follow our current laws.

We all lose if tech’s deranged agenda passes.

To every politician/legislator worldwide deciding to give Big Tech and GenAi companies legislative wins, you are siding with thieves who are being exposed in the courts. Also training from ill gotten sources is standard operation of all GenAi

Dont bet your careers on thieves. It’s not worth it.

Labour in the UK wants to allow corporations to profit without paying creators for their labour.

This is anti worker, and makes it harder for the UK to trade and license copyrighted work with neighbours.

Copyright requires countries to respect eachothers copyright.
Writers, musicians, actors & other creators strongly oppose upending copyright law to favour AI companies, as suggested in the UK's AI Opportunities Action Plan.

As Kate Mosse says, seeking economic growth "cannot be on the basis of theft of our work".

2025 is going to be a BIG year in the Opt-in vs. Opt-out debate for AI systems.

We at EGAIR are going to be fighting hard for the rights of creators to say NO or YES to AI training.

INFORMED and EXPLICIT consent is the name of the game.

Removing and scrubbing attribution and copyright info seems to be a common strategy for AI companies to avoid transparency and discovery of this act in their models.

Even supposedly "Open Source" orgs like EleutherAI did this when creating The Pile Books3, a collection of 197 000 pirated books.
Holy shit this filing update is wild! It states that:

1. Zuckerberg gave the ok to train off copyrighted works

2. Engineers wrote scripts to remove copyright info

3. Meta downloaded illegal torrents to train models of

GenAi is a house of cards, I swear.

Hello Bluesky! We are EGAIR, an organisation fighting for artists' rights and sensible AI regulation in the EU, focused on consent.

We're artist-run and have been doing this work since 2022, speaking with lawmakers both in member states and on the EU level.

Let's keep at it in the new year! 🎉

Saw a clip of misty from the pokemon origins series the other day and got inspired. I liked the more mature/gym leader look she had so tried to give her more of a swimmer build. Could maybe have pushed it a bit futher.

I've been testing out baking vertex animation to textures. Even though its just a test mesh, the results feels pretty satisfying, and I can see the potential for dynamic element in a scene. Excited to maybe do more proper meshes some day.

Here's a fun Frieren piece i've been working on this week, wanted to try and see if sculpting in blender is a viable alterative yet, but most of the time have been spent on lighting and compositing. Need to become better at keeping focus on projects. Hope some of you like it anyway!
